well after reading the f.a.q sticky that junkie had made, (and the fact that he urged me to do an easier swap then a 1jz to get more knowledge) i have decided to not keep the whitepra stock. the swap faq for 7mgte that he wrote has made me realize that my whitepra needs one....lol... i will still do the blackpra with a jz later on,but i will do the white 7mgte first. it seems a bit easier for a beginner swapper to complete . all of the threads i have read show how happy the 7mgte makes you all when you get it done and i really want to do it.
great writeup junkie. thanks for the info. you hooked another.
1 question............. what year mIII do you think i should go look for? i read that there are differences between years and was wondering which you think would be best?

Try for an 89+ as a new harness is readily available at this time for those. These harness' take some serious underhood heat, and tend to deteriorate, over the years.

sweet. now to go hunt....lol. if i find on and the motor is beaten.... do you thing the next best bet would be to get one from chimpy? i read that he does a great rebuild on the ones he refurbishes.

It took about two years for my donor to show up. My criteria was a mk3 that had been wrecked and not just driven to oblivion, with a running engine that I could verify was in running order. Tho my donor appeared to be a good one, like all mk3s, it had been driven hard. The engine needed alot of machine work. If I had it to do over, I'd add the criteria that the donor needs to be a grandma's car that has never had a history of BHG or any previous machine work to the head. Of course, in Texas, I'd still be looking today, but with the number of Supras in the Pacific Northwest, you should find one like that much easier. Good luck.

Best yet, I finally put a N/A head from a JDM 7M that hadn't been exposed to all the heat in its life.... ended up being the best 7MGTE that I built...
