View Full Version : MK2 Complaints, lets see them...
So, Andy Z (Arizona Performance) and I are meeting up next week to go through my '84 and start finding some things that we believe we can upgrade on the Celica Supra. He has already made Wilwood BBK's for MK3/4 supras, and a few goodies for the 7m-gte. He and I finally got in touch and he explained to me that he needs a guinea pig car to do some measuring and exploring with. He's already got one big surprise in the works for us (the reason I'm going), but he also would like some input on some stuff that we would like to change.
The guy can fabricate, so let's hear your ideas/suggestions.
If you'd like to see some of his other work, check out his vendor sections on supramania.com or azsupracentral.com "ARZ Performance"

I Sure could use a well built strut brace, 5 x 114.3 wheel adapters and a Supra battery hold down bracket !! How's that for a shopping list, I can Paypal whenever your done :D
Seriously guys he does good work you gotta see his 7m valve covers !!

Yes, his valve covers are amazing.
I'll throw him your ideas and see what he says. He won't do anything unless there is a decent amount of people willing to buy it. So if you see an idea in this thread that you agree with, second it. The more people that I see backing a thought, the more serious I can tell him that everyone is about something.

Front facing intake manifold for the 7MGTE with everything you need (throttle cable setup etc.)
LED tail light kit that looks stock, air bag setup, front chin spoiler, billet cam covers, anodized intake, throttle body, intake manifolds,
polished aluminum pullys,
Cam covers are already made.
I should have specified though, most of the stuff he makes involves machining/billet/metals. So tail lights/air bag/spoiler may be out of the question.

Pics please ??? :D You said MKII, the cam covers he makes, that we have pics of, are 7m ;)
<---Being a wise ass, as I really don't care, the stockers look fine cleaned up.
Personaly, I can't think of any "must have" items. Those things I'd like, I'd probably have built as one off's, so the car/parts were unique.

Q45 throttle cam that has a extra cable hookup for cruise control. Also a Q45 to Toyota TPS adapter would be a popular item as well.
A better 7M alternator lowering bracket that replaces the factory one
For 7M swaps a serpentine pulley for the 5M AC compressor or an adapter to mount the 5M AC fittings on the 7M compressor.
how about a Diffy cover with bigger cooling fins?

Sorry, sir. Wasn't thinking.
That just means everyone who wants cam covers needs to do a 7m swap :zzzzz:

I'll mention those as well. I really like the TPS adapter and the Alt. Bracket. I'll also definitely look into pullies.

an approximately 5" diameter coilver collar type device that would bolt to holes drilled in the 'hump' on the rear control arm, and accept the stock size (5.5" OD) spring in a shorter length and allow for rear ride height adjustment thru the threaded collar and nuts

No, I mean billet aluminum 5M underdrive crank pullies.
No, I mean billet aluminum 5M underdrive crank pullies.
I'll see what I can do about that. I could see 7m pullies being done, because he also does a lot of MK3 business. If there are enough people interested in 5m pullies, then theres no reason why he wouldn't want to do it though. I for one, would be interested in the 5m pullies since after the swap, I'm rebuilding my 5m later on down the road.
I'm going to mention all of the ideas we've come up with in this thread to him. Once we take a look around the car and do some more discussing, I'll give a list of the parts that he can make. From there, I'll guage interest in how many people would be in for each part, and we can figure out which ones will actually go into production.

I agree 5*114.3 would be perfect with a million and one wheels that size.
SilverMk2
07-31-2007, 08:10 PM
Personally if you can do 5x120 to 4x114.3 adapters in a 20mm offset would be better than 5x114.3. There are tons and tons of cheap BMW wheels in +20 offset in the 8.5, 9, 9.5 sizes in 5x120.
I don't think custom axles for 5x114.3 is going to have many buyers when you find they are $1500 or more. There are a lot of speciality things behind simple machining for the stub axles. Its far cheaper to make custom wheels in 4x114.3 or buy adapter than convert to 5 lug + buying wheels.

Very good idea, the steel one bends all to shit when you try and unstick it from the block. A more solid one would be nice to have. It would take one hell of a pricey block of billet to make though.

+1 for diff cover and oil pan...oil pan moreso!
how about A CUP HOLDER!?!?! that's something us cheap mk2 owners could get into!
something that bolts to the tunnel side seat bracket? if he doesn't make one, I will eventually.

08-01-2007, 08:17 PM
Personally I think the diff cover is unnecessary. Weld two fittings on the cover and install a recirculation system for cooling doesn't require a new cover. You can probably do it without modifying it all all if you can find the lower drain in a banjo fitting and an AN adapter for the inlet.
I think a more useful item that draws in the Mk3 guys is a transmission recirc kit that pressure feeds the R154 thrust bearing.

Not bashing on 3T for there product but last I herd we still have to modify and make the holes bigger to accommodate the Tension Control Arms.

How about making some that are truly meant for the MK2. No modifying necessary.

Countering again with:
Its a lot easier and WAY less expensive for you to drill 4 holes slightly bigger than to engineer a completely new product for a chassis where there is slim to no chance of ever recovering cost.
There is nothing wrong with drilling the holes bigger, or obviously the more knowledgeable people who actually test out these products would say something.
Not trying to pick on you, just trying to explain your thought process against reality.

the mkII suspension handles better,
....you do know the mk3 suspension design is so much better than the mk2 right? Double wishbone is ages better than the trailing arm design of our mk2s.
I'd be down for a billet 6m crank pulley(so I don't have to order an entire 6mge just to throw in new rods and pistons).

Do what I do. Get one of those 5 dollar drink holder organizer things that are made to go on your floor. Set in on the seat and throw it in the back seat when someone else sits in the car. Thats what I do with the Corolla where the factory cupholder won't hold anything bigger than a pepsi can.
