A couple of months ago I installed MS1 for fuel control and super happy with the result in this thread :

I finally get around to install MSnS extra over the weekend and now I have spark control as well.

Megasquirt 1 V2.2 PCB with MSnS firmware, PCB rewired based on the MS extra manual on HEI setup.
Stock 84 distributor, grinded to 6 tooth on the big wheel
GM 7 pin HEI ignition control module
Bye bye flapper door AFM !

My spark map is a shameless copy from cheappower82 (Thanks !!). Very good starting point for tuning.

I went for GM HEI with distributor just it seems to be the most straight forward without much modifications compare to the EDIS setup. For those who are interested, here are some pointers that may help :

- The HEI module can be put inside the stock ignitor housing for a stock look and better heat sink if you use the smaller 7 pin module (from an 84 Pontiac Sunbird with 1.8L TBI engine), just take out the stock electronic and switch the leadwires over.

- Grind the big 24 tooth wheel inside the distributor to 6 evenly spaced tooth, the one with the indent mark should be left intact, otherwise I think there may be timing issue. The 2 tooth wheel is no longer used. A vacuum advance 82 distributor already has 6 tooth on the wheel but the advance mechanism needs to be locked up. I used an 84 because I have one laying around.

- Move the VR sensor to just clear the tooth to get a stronger signal. Stock is 0.35 mm, I moved it to like 0.1 mm. I found no noise issue.

- Rewire the AFM connector so MS can control the fuel pump.

- I used a Bosch Auxiliary air valve to replace the ISC valve as suggested in the MS manual. it helps start up but does not control idle speed. This is separate from MS so no wiring required, just a switched 12V.

- Engine light now always ON looking for AFM signal. I am going to take out the stock ECU as it is no longer doing anything.

Everything else is just what they said in the MS Extra manual. There are some more works to tidy up the wiring and piping but so far so good.

sounds great! if you start having any problems with trigger, get one of those 36-1 wheels and an edis vr sensor, made a huge difference with my setup. then again, I may should have adjusted the gap on my dizzy
