This can be considered a tribute to Audrey.. what I wish she could have been alive to see..what she could have become...

I know to many of you it maybe considered a waste of time. but that being said, I had a 5m-4 laying around among several other spare parts and wanted to put it to good use. So I dropped the 5m-e into a -79 pickup that was a rust bucket. I'm doring the wiring right now. It went in with stock 5m mounts and brackets, however in a 79-83 truck, it places the engine about 5 to 6" abpve the hoodline with a bad tilt on the tranny. i modified the engine brackets dropping the engine lowe enought to clear the hood and have the oil pan miss the x memeber. I didn, however have to heat and bend the pitman and adler arms to get the crossbar to clear by 1.5" all in all it fits great. I found ou the truck underdash wiring was damaged b4 i bought it as is the underhood wiring..so I'm doing a chassis wiring swap from the ma47. I pulled everything from a wrecked ma47 so the wiring will be in better cond and newer than what was in the truck. I will keep you guys posted. next step:
fuel pump and radiator.

I dropped the fuel tank on the 79 pickup and was surprised to find that the truck had an electric fuel pump. It is a low pressure pump with a very small body, however I am trying to decide if I should run an inline or in tank pump. on the rest of the truck, I removed the stock underdash harness, the thing was in bad shape. I fed the ma47 supra harness under the dash in the truck. the fan blower motor speed control , brake switch and dash dimmer control both plugged right in. The blower motor wire needs to be extended and it will wire right up. Eveything else was swapped from the mk1 supra. It's all in and plugged up to the underhood wiring, which is in turn is connected to all the sensors and the headlight, and core support harness. Whats left is connecting the wiring to the steering column/ ign switch and the cab wiring to the bead wiring, which should be a sinch.

I know it an't pretty, yet, but the project was supposed to look like a quick little rustbucket...

connected the speedocable and dropped fuel tank and remove elect pump and pickup. I dropped the the mk1 supra fuel pickup into the tank and I will going with the 5me pump which will provide enough gasoline for 375 hp..enough even for 2jzgtte or lexus v8. It will work for a 5me with turbo. If flows better than a 7mge pump. WIll be re-installing the tank today.

Next I will measure the driveshaft and see if a mk2 driveshaft I had laying around will work...

the white and green plugs are tailights and fuel pump wires, respectively.
This is the splice point between the supra wiring and the truck wiring, which is a sinch.
You can see the melted harness unde the dash and in the engine compartment...
Here are also pics of the mk1 ma47 electric fuel pump and fuel pump pickup bolted into the truck fuel tank. Toyota moved one of the 8 bolt holes was moved over 1/4 to ensure proper installation on truck. I just left that one bolt out...

the 81 supra fuel suction is 1/2" diam fuel line!
See below the inline fuel fuel pump from the supra.

When I get it running I will run it on the track for a base run and then start adding goodies like a s/c or turbo.

The exhaust is going to be a dual muffler-back exhaust from a mazda rx-8...

Anyone have an mt-e distubutor, ecu,or manifold laying around?
I'm also gonna need a 55" drivesshaft, either 1 piece or 2 piece...
I also need a rear window, short bed and pass fender for a 79-83 pickup...

Anyone have any suggsetions or ideas or parts...?

you had a m-e or an m-ge? Reason why I had to go with a 76-81 pickup is beause the motor is from an 81 and in Cali you can't smog it unless its the same year or newer. I used to like the 84-88 trucks best but I have grown to like the 79-82s. If i had an 84-86 I would have dropped in a m-ge and if i had an 87 to 92 I would have went 5m-ge or 7m-ge. I basically picked up the truck based on the parts I had laying around.

Oldmate, due to the fires, I will need a little time to get you those pics...Were cleaning up here in cali. We didn't get hit directly with the fire..we are just cleaning up ash and waiting for stores and businesses to open back up....

On the mitsu wheels, yes they were us-state side, but they are rare and hard to find here, too.

UPDATES ON THE TRUCK:

Fuel tank was re-installed into the truck and sender re-connected. Fuel pump from mk1 was installed. I used the mk1 fuel supply line as supply and used the trucks old supply line as the return. I am re-using the trucks vapor cannister line for the 5m vapor cannister.. when it goes back on the street..maybe...
So all fuel lines connected, ecu plugged in, all battery cables repaired and connected, wiring ran to fuel pump..
I tried to start it last night but all i got was a click. I will check the battery cables.. this is a common problem with mk3 and recently mk1 cars that sit around alot. The startter may just be stuck.

I will be running an 82 truck gauge cluster as the harness plugs into the 82-83 trucks...the 79-81 harness is way different....

I will keep you guys posted...

made it thru the fires ok, life is pretty much back to usual..
Update on the truck:

After a mis plugin on the injector harness that caused a partially melted subharness, I found it repaired it and it started on the first shot!. Ended up only needed 2 wires for the engine to run..basically the fuel pump wires. After6 wire for the tailights etc, the overall wiring will be done. Can't wait to install the downpipe and muffler , change all the fluids and take it to the track for a base run. I have a reground camshaft for it also....next is header or a turbo kit larger afm and intake piping....

OLDmate, I will be working on those pic this afternoon

I was just about to purchase some brake line when I rememebered that I kept the clutch master and slave culinders from the mk1. Since the 22r vehicles have the alvae on the pass side, I had to move the slave to the drivers side. I simply used the slave and line from the mk1 and removed the 22r unit. .
Since i have a mk2 lsd laying aorund....I think I will do the rear end swap...Anyone here know if i can keep my truck ratio but use the lsd or if I have to keep the ration of the lsd donor... Anyone...?

the lsd center can be used with whatever ratio, as long as they are both F series. As far as I know.

I would like to keep the aggressive 22r rear end gearing..when it breaks, then I'll drop in the mk3 n/a gears, if the lsd and axles survive...

UPDATE:
Got my drivehaft back from san diego driveline service, they did an absolute great job...it looks brand new..balanced an everything. When I take it for a spin I will let you guys know how good the balance job was. I'm getting ready to install the ist 1/2 of the exhaust and hang the cat back dual exhaust back half. I will position it and hang it and then get it welded up. I will prob us ed hansons muffler service.. They do got work. i will keep you all posted....

Had to remove ac compressor and idler pulley. Never reinstalled ps. I will be cutting the core support tomorrow after i take a few measurements as a reference first. Obviously the 5m is longer than the 20/22r so I will be making space for the radiator and electric fan. I purchased a fan from a 90's mercedes v8 which is an 18" bosch electric pusher fan. I will be doing a front end swap so I wanted to ditch the core support anyway. I tired to reinstall the downpipe with pre-cat but it woudnt clear the torsion bar or sway bar. I cut the flange/first 9" right before the pre-cat and bolted it up to the manifold. I will take it to an exhaust shop and have the complete the exhaust..
