Euro tailights??? As on the Euro or AUS spec MKII's????

No such animal...... Those tailights are the same as the 82 - 85 RA Celica's, minus the inside housings for the license plate lights.

Going in the opposite direction of clear tails, I think slightly tinted or "smoked" tails look good on a dark coloured Mk2. 8) Not sure how they would look on a light coloured Mk2 though. I've only seen them on a charcoal grey metallic Mk2 and they looked hot. Smokin' hot!
Just my opinion. 8)

He wanted a pic of 'euro' tails on a mk2. So, I envisioned the clear backround with red lenses, and added a rice flavor to show him how gay it looks on a mk2. Your car was shot at the perfect angle fo this illustration.

Your vw illustration is funny, but irrelevant in this thread 8) I love teh dual n20 kits, I wonder how many ricers dreamed of that.

you can get any style of tail light for your car, all you have to do is come up with a design. bring your tail lights to a plastic shop ie:where i live island plastics they can custom build you a set of tail lights, but they will not be d.o.t. approved, and watch your but, try to patenet the disign first you could screwd out alot of money.

The funny thing is people are saying they want to change their taillights to be different?!?! By owning a MK2, you are different! HELLO! And the MK2 lights are soooo bad already in terms of light output, why the hell would you want to make it even worse by covering them? Tanya, my first MK2 (another '82) had horizontal stripes (pinstripe tape) on it's tailights, it was not good. Ken, I do kind of like yours from a DIY pre-altezza stand point.

I know everyone has their own opinions, but I would like to ask for you to not insult that car. That was my 1st Supra, my baby. The previous owner put the stripe on, allthough I liked it anyway. If it wasn't for that car, I would not be here, I'd still be stuck pushing an 86 Dodge Colt backwards b/c I burned the reverse gear out of it
:?

Regardless of this thread, I put the stripes on tail lights last night, as well as the tail lights I gave to my aunt ( to replace her modded round lights ). Everyone I know likes them, I like them and that's all that matters to me. Light output has not changed. If you walk more than 50 feet away, you wouldn't have ever known I had stripes on there...
Here's a pic, you can't see them very well the way the car is parked and the angle of light,I will have to wait until it gets darker

(it can't be Rice because it doesn't make the car go faster)

for some reason this reminds me of a bmw, i kinda like it.

personally, i figure the 82-83 tails look the best just stock, or maybe with a light smoke paint.
if you really want to mod your tails, why not do something productive and useful, and mod them to use those high output LED bulbs.
they put out something like 2x the light of a standard filament bulb, and draw less current.

this would help out in so many ways, imagine using LEDs for every light in a supra, (except headlights :P) you would have more light, better visibility, and draw less power from the alternators.
im sure some people think thats kind of nit picking, but say, for example, that you swap to LEDs and save 3 amps of current draw when all the lights are on.
thats almost 5% of the alternators output, plus better light.
i havent even touched on the fact that LEDs generally have a much greater lifespan, especially in an automotive environment where filaments are subject to vibration.

raven

I put pinstriping on my tails. So many people complain that they don't like the look of the 84-86 tails anyway, because of the 3D groovess on 'em. I found that striped overlayed on those grooves enhances the look, and makes those design points stand out. I really don't see it as any different from the *stock* pinstriping along the body lines on the sides of our cars. It's a way to make the existing lines of the car stand out. Ricer? That's a bit of a leap. If the pinstriping had HK$ written all along it, or a "Type-R" theme, I'd say yeah.

But I do hate those tailights on Tanya's first Supra.

the easier way to do this si a parallel/series array of leds, lets say that you put as many leds in series to complete your car voltage, if leds are 3v, you will need 4 leds, but if leds are 1.5V you will need 8.

now you have a row (or column), make as much strips of serial leds you want, and then connect them in parallel.

the best way would be to put a LM7812 voltage regulator, strips of 8 leds 1.5V each,in series they'll match the 12 VDC, this way you wont be needing series resistor for each led to limit current.

each led needs about 30mA , but they are in series, each 8 LED's strip will take the same 30mA, the regulator holds fine 1amp, so you can put about 30 strips in parallel per regulator.

I could give you formulas, circuit schematics, what ever you need to do that, just mention it!!

Don't forget that with the car running the voltage should be closer to 14v than 12v

well i think it would be easier with some resistors, because the car voltage spikes sometimes, like turning the radio off will bump up the available amps while the car is running. My main concern is the amperage.

I am going to run the LEDs paralell/series combo, special wiring system i found out with LEDs . I have built a few Boards and i have found the perfect combo for the tail lights, I have to get around to finding the proper Resistors now, to reduce the voltage to the specs i need.

atdsupra

Don't forget that with the car running the voltage should be closer to 14v than 12v

hth

That's why I suggested a LM7812 regulator, about the amps . . . you can get low current LED's as 10 mA/ea.,, that would be 100 leds for 1 amp.

dont think of having 100 leds for one light right?

and with resistors, you still have to use the regulator, because its only to regulate current to the LED, if you calculate the resistor for 14V, what about when low voltage is present, like 12.5 to 13 V,

Resistors are worthless with or without regulator, they will just double the amount of components required . . way to go: series/parallel array.

ohms and kirchoff's laws will help you a lot . . .

trust me

I built an array that works off of an AC current. I used a transformer that was 500 mA and 4.5 volts, I did the series/paralell connections. It was sorta like this:
