hey. i got an 1985 p-type 5 speed. and i get this check engine light telling me the 41 code (tps). and i replaced that and it didnt change a thing. wiring lookes ok with out digging to deep. the car will drive really rough, then she clears up and runs perfect for a bit, then goes to crap again. i dont know wat to do. ive also got and 1983 5 speed. is the wireing interchangable and how and wat could it take? also i tried putting the 83s ecu in the 85. it ran about the same, but it still gave me the 41 code. i know the 85 they changed the tps from a 3 pin the the 4 pin. i dont know wat to do.

Have your spec'd (adjusted) the TPS properly?

reset the ECU. unhook to battery at night, code should go away, see if it runs any better
But yes, make sure the TPS is adjusted properly as well.

Are you using a mulitmeter to adjust it? If not you are doing it wrong.

well i now got that wiring and ecu out of the 83 and put it in the 85. there is no check engine light. but it just idles really rough and it wont rev up, seems to be running lean. see if i put gas on the filter, she'll run great and rev perfect. does any one got any ideas???

Which TPS did you put in the 85???
Still have the 85 TPS, or did you put in the 83 TPS???
85 ECU is NOT going to like the 83 TPS. And vice versa (83 ECU is not going to like the 85 TPS).
Yes, TPS's are different (82 - 84 is the same, 85-86 is the same, but different from 82 - 84).

plug every connector back in when you re did the wiring? i forgot a connector that DIDNT plug into the ecu but was behind it.
let me ask this: does your water temp gauge work?

i got it runnin pretty good. i put the 83s wiring and ecu in the 85. ran better, but still a little off i changed fuel tanks and pumps and she runs good now. there is a another connector by the ecu that changed between 83 and 85, and i think that is why my temp gauge dont work. also i can drive around town all day and everything is good. but when i get above 70 for a few min, the check engine light comes on. there is no change in the performance or anything, plus the wierd thing is it will go off when i slow down, and it leaves no code. dont know wat that is??????

Personally, I would suggest putting back the 85 ECU, or try using another 85 ECU??
If you keep running the 83 ECU, one of the slight after affects of this, is that the 83 ECU is now going IGNORE your 85 knock sensor... It will have no clue that it's even there.
