Looks Like I have to replace my tires. All 4 have 90% thread left , but I noticed slight cracking & a small bubble on one , the other 3 look OK.
Should I replace just 1 , or all 4 ??
As far as I know, they were all purchased & installed at the same time.

Have you inspected the inside walls? Tires can develop dry rot if they're old. I believe the 4 digit mfg date code is on the sidewall i.e. 4202 repreents the 42nd week of 2002. I'd consider chabging them if they're more than 5 years old. Maybe someone else has an opinion about the age. If they're new then changing just the bad one with the same tire should be good.

I'd figure that the one with the bubble should be replaced *shrugs* Some of the more paranoid types might want to replace all four. How old are they?

Henry,
I'm w/ Stan on this. Poke around on the sidewall & see if you can find a date code "somewhere".
Those Michelin Pilots you have "should" be between somewhere between 1998 - 2003???? (Anyone remember when the Pilot XGT-H4's were made??) Definitely NOT the 80's, or the early 90's, otherwise, we would have been all over these as a 225/60 tire choice. Definitely after 95 till ~2003/2004 when Michelin finally discontinued them.
I would go to a repututable Michelin dealer for inspection, UV and tire rot are serious issues...
I did have a brand new Toyo AVS ES?? 100 have a big bubble in the sidewall the first month, Tire Rack claimed it was from a damage bead during mounting by the tire shop I used, I claimed BS on that!!
Having owned 2 - 5th Wheel trailers x 18 years now, I have seen small cracks in the sidewall like your picture, those don't concern me as much as the "slash"!!

I don't know exactly when Michelin discontinued the XGT's, I had a set in 01/02, I really liked them, but they didn't last too long (wore out in a hard driven summer).

I watched as a tread completed seperated from a tire on a jetta. Now, im not talking bits and pieces... i mean the entire tread came off the tire as a whole piece. the jetta owner knew something was wrong (they were on the freeway, 4 lanes of fun) and they started making their way from fast lane to right lane shoulder (no shoulder on left side).
As they made their way into the fast lane I see this poof of dust/air and then i see this round black thing (the complete tread as I was about to learn) decide to go back across the freeway, bounce off the jersey barrier and head back towards the shoulder.
This tread was narrowly avoided by a delivery truck in front of me as it headed to the barrier, I slowed and flashed my brake lights to those behind me. Thankfully in this case traffic was light and everyone was able to avoid hitting this now road hazzard.
For the locals, i5 northbound, at the 84th st exit area.

Just read the DOT code on the Yoko's I bought from a fellow on the board that had never been mounted. 5206. Whew! 52nd week of 2006. Looks like I'm good for a few years. Thanks for the post.

Are you sure you are reading the correct DOT number? I think it should be a 4 digit number like 2204 meaning 22nd week of 2004 meaning date of manufacture.

^^^ I took a closer look at the numbers , my existing tires ,were all manufactured between 1998 & 1999 , they all have +95 % thread left . I still plan on replacing them , new tire should be here next week.

From what I recall, Michelin tires have a 6-year warranty from the date of purchase. After that you're on your own.

Oh WOW!!!!! Thanks for sharing that news story!!!!
We just replaced the tires on our new (to us) 2004 Chevy Malibu MAXX at the beginning of April. Will have to check that manufacture code and see how old they are!!
Will have to check the tires on both of my Supras to see how old those are as well.
Thanks again!!

I'd consider changing them if they're more than 5 years old.
Yeah, I guess it just depends on how you drive the car...
I have tires on the blue Supra that look WAY worse than that, but the car sits in the garage 365 days a year.
I just drive it around the block once a month.
