Collinite and Meguiars NXT are my top 2. Do not get any of the new turtle wax products, they all suck. if you really wanna go balls out and do a 4 stage detail do: claymagic claybar, menzerna SIP,
menzerna PO85rd and collinite 845.

So is the new Turtle Wax "Ice" stuff just a lot of hype and pure crap?

Zymol has been a long time favorite of mine. Goes on easy and wipes off easy compared to other liquid polish.

I too also still use Meguiars Gold Class, especially on older vehicles like my 88 Corolla that is still mostly original paint.

The million $$ question: What's the best stuff to use on a black car/vehicle to get a deep, glossy shine that will last?

Compound + New layer of clear coat.

on a more serious note, collinite does wonder on cars, my dad who did paint jobs for the past 30 years only trust that.

From a TW "Ice" tester, who decided to give this stuff a try earlier this Spring.

The Liquid Clay Bar is actually "half way decent". It does get "a bunch" of the crappy surface contaminants off of the paint surface, but not quite everything. I would say, it's a great "starter" tool. If you want get EVERYTHING off, get the real thing, IE: a REAL Clay Bar kit (either the Mothers Clay Bar (which is my 1st choice) or possibly the Maguiars Clay Bar kit (if you can find it), or if you don't mind the $$$$, the Griots Garage kit.

Ice Polish: Meh............... Dave pretty much nailed it. Hype & pure crap. If I wanted to use a better polish, I'll stick w/ Nu Finish.

Ice Car Soap: Works like everybody else's.

Have not tried the interior detailer yet.

So......

Maguiars NXT does kick ass, but I have not been able to test drive any of the products yet.

My picks so far:

Car soap: Maquiars Gold Class

Paint Cleaner: Just about anything from Maguiars.

Clay Bar: Mothers.

Polish: A tie between Nu Finish & any Maguiars polish.

Wax: Maguiars Gold Class, or NXT

Glaze: Maguiars.

Your mileage may vary.

My detailing box pretty much matches Chris's list and it kept my old black truck glossy for years.

I've tried the Zaino stuff and it was mehhh. Maguires works just as well for half the price.

LOL!!

I remember years ago, we had a thread about the Zaino products on the Yahoo list. VERY VERY pricey products, & they were just "meh....". But the Ferrari guys like them, for some reason... (must be pricey, must be good...).

Is this (clearcoat) really an option? My original paint is 99%. It's that 1% I worry about. A new very small rock chips here and there, but it is the Super White, which is like an enamel, not clearcoated. Can it be touched up and clearcoated over? The black parts need to be repainted, for sure.

I'm also a big fan of the Meguires Gold Class, I've also used the NXT but i've noticed it collects a lot of dust and debris.

Griots is about 5 miles from my house, and they are definately Toyota friendly. Their creeper is indeed the creeper you want in your garage. Some of us (Matt is definately going) are going to a display of their's in August on their detailing products. I haven't tried their detailing products yet, but my experience is everything out of Griots is decent.

Best stuff Ive ever used is Klasse. Its made in Germany and removes oxidation faster & easier than any product Ive used, leaving long lasting shine. Never seen this in any auto store, but the Toyota dealership in Vallejo carries it and Ive seen it some Ferrari, Caddy and Porche dealerships. Sells for about 24.00-36.00 16oz

I purchased a wax called " pinnacle souveran " , & I had some "Miguiars NXT"
I waxed the hood (half with Pinnacle, the other half with Miguiars).
Both sides look exactly the same. Only difference was the pinnacle was easier to remove. So I decided to do the whole car using the Pinnacle Souveran.
The disadvantage of the pinnacle wax is the price.

I've always wanted to try the Zaino or Tropicare stuff. I've seen some cars that are detailed with it that look spectular. From what I understand they aren't that durable though its more of a "showcar wax". One of these days I might wax the Supra :D (never have in the 8 years I've owned it).
