I talked to the guy. No rust spots, Need's new brake's some small body damage on the right side front by the light. Light still pops out. I wonder if that's fixable. Smoke's a little when started. Brake rotor's are warped. I dunno much about car's go easy I'm only 16. =D
Going to look at it tomorrow.
Should I buy if I like?

depends

car cost $1,000
but could need alot of work, ie- more $$ so do the math

$1,000
+
$2,000 "give or take"
______________

Is it worth it?

you can prob use the money that you use to fix it up to just buy a full working one
but it you want the satisfaction of working on the car your self then i would buy and restore/fix
good luck:]

given that i don't know much about the car i'm just going to say this, if the car is stock; and theres over 150,000km on the odo, then you're almost defiantly going to spend money. I think it's a worth wail investment. but if you don't have the money it's just kind of not worth it. i bough my car about 6 months ago, and between buying better parts for it (270) and parts to repair it (1450) it's expensive. just expect to put money into it. it's a 24 year old car after all.

Take advantage of this. Pretty darned nice of him to offer. Its always good to have a disinterested party with you when car shopping to help keep you from making rash decisions and somebody with some wrenching knowledge is even better. From the brief description, this one sounds kinda iffy to begin with so its doubly important to have somebody there with you.

I've already talked to him on the phone.
If the guy let's me test drive it I'm gonna drive it out to him. He'll give her a good lookin at.
And yeah I KNOW it will take work. As old as the car is. I dunno much about it either. Will keep posting as I learn more about it.

Looks pretty good, yeah just a new header panel maybe a bit more of body love. No problem you can get pretty much anything off this site, and definetly do it yourself. The only thing I wouldn't touch is fuel, some brake stuff, and some suspension. I'm 16, but I only do that stuff if I'm with a mechanic or something, I'm doing brakes right now, but new fuel pump/refurbed tank was done by a shop. Good luck, if you need anything you'll find it here. enjoy the car. pce

The smoke depending on color and smell could be: Oil from piston rings, antifreeze from head gasket, or bad valve seals (seats). Argghh.

Also check behind the rear fender well quarter panel and see if there is rust. (Between rear tire and rear lights at bottom). If there is then the next thing that starts to rust is the roof pillars.

If the brake discs are warped even more argggghhh. Not exactly the easiest to change. Might need new calipers, pistons, seals depending on how long the car was driven with warped rotors.

I think he is gonna also need a new under bumper mounting frame (the one that the fog lights, turn signals mount to).

If you are going to work on the brakes make sure that you do it safely. Jack stands, placed on the frame. Optional secondary Jack Stands on the suspension arms. Don't stick yourself in a position that you cannot get out of quickly if the car falls. It is made of steel, you are not.

You are going to also need a large "C" clamp to recompress the caliper pistons, evenly so that you do not damage the seals. So that you can put the new pads, spacers, rotors on.

torque wrench, check your wheel bearings. Torque wrench to retighten the nut. I think it was to 90 pounds.

Yes, I was a mechanic at one time.

While you are at it, you might want to do what I have to do. Clean the oil pan and the screen on the oil pump. 24 years of gunk.

When you mount the new rotors, torque them down to 48 ft-lb (iirc, check in tsrm) to prevent future warpage and torque lug nuts evenly to about 75 - 80 ft-lb (again check tsrm) every time you mount a tire. Uneven tightening causes rotor warpage.
