Yeah, it's possible. I read your PM. haven't responded, as I'm running through inventory in my head. I have everything here, to change it to 85 electronics.
Is it worth it ????? How much time and money do you want to spend? Do you understand wiring well ? it's not plug and play ....
Why do you want to get rid of the vac. advance ??? What are your real goals for the car ??? Power ? Economy ? Drivability issues ?

Shawn, I think that the 82 might have a better solution using the 22R/RE aftermarket stuff over in the classic celica end of things - with that vacuum advance dizzy. They have more aftermarket stuff available, but I think neither of us have kept track of what they have available lately (I'm learning more stuff about the 82 daily, now I have one).
I have no idea if going to an 85 system is better, but I suspect there is more stuff available that you can mod to a 82 5MGE.

Well "technically" you should be able to rev your '82 higher as it doesn't have a rev limiter in the computer. 83-86s rev limiters are from 6700-7200rpm
you can take all the emissions off the 82 as well, no need to upgrade any electronics for that.

Go here (http://www.sfmodelaclub.org/Supra.html) for the Emission Control Manual for the 82 - and most of the vacuum lines. You can remove the EGR and the associated vacuum lines. Just make sure you do not fiddle with the engine control vacuum lines, and plug any line you pull (vacuum leaks = bad thing).

The Abode Acrobat format is a standard. You need Adobe Reader. If you weren't local I'd ignore this question. This is a basic program that should be on any computer (though I'm still using version 5 due to licensing issues for a full version well beyond the Reader).
Go here and download an install Adobe Reader http://www.adobe.com/

how about the exact opposite? using older wiring harness + vacuum advance on a newer engine? Can you run 5/6/7m's in a 82 bay with intake/exhaust/wiring etc from an 82? I know the 6/7 went dohc..
the reason I'm asking is because i was thinking of putting a toyota straight 6 on propane and vacuum advance with the dist and ignitor from an 82 would work with a gotpropane kit
