Did a search on stock rim refinishing....did not find a whole lot of good stuff on this subject.....I know there is a section on the main page that shows you how to restore the rims yourself and also gives a name of a place in PA, that charges 90 a rim to refinish........

Is there anyone, anywhere that knows of a place who does aluminum wheel refinishing/restorations at a resonable price.....? I think some time ago I remember someone saying that there is a place in Oklahoma that refinishes them for about 40 dollars per rim......just wanted to know if I could get some more info on this or if anyone know of a place in the continental U.S. that can help me out with this......I would do it myself....but the back side of my rims have 20 years of brake dust on them and I would rather just pay a pro to do it right the first time..........cool, thanks for your time........................

By far the best way to clean the cast surfaces of the rim is sandblasting. Mask off the polished surfaces with a couple layers of heavy vinyl tape, then carefully blast in between the spokes mostly from the back side. The inside face of the rim is of course easy as pie. Thats how I do them with ordinary beach sand in the yard (they won't fit in my cabinet). You probably don't have blasting equipment but look under sand blasting in the yellow pages. If you mask them, somebody will probably do them for $10-$20 each, then you can polish the faces yourself with a couple of buffing pads and an ordinary drill.

Actually, aluminum oxide blasting is best, imho.

You should be able to find a place to your liking with the above search.

Man, google sure works alot better than dogpile, with a name like dogpile I should have known it was shit.....every time I searched dogpile with terms like "aluminum wheel refinishing" or thing of the like it would give me links to places that build or rebuild old wagon wheels, it was freaky weird......wonder what that supra would look like with a set of 36 inch wagon wheels......wonder if I would set a new trend with that or get flamed like a mofo.........thanks for your help on that fellas....peace

Yes, but at $36/bag, don't want that stuff going all over my back yard. I'm about to do another set and half tempted to dismount the new michelin pilots that are on there so I can fit the wheels in my cabinet. Don't worry tho, I do wear a respirator when using sand outside.

I located about 4 companys in my area who will sandblast and powdercoat wheels for $40 each. I plan to try this when my tires wear out (August 2004?). I want to try flat black. I will take before and after pictures of the brake dust.

PS: I am still looking for good pictures of the P-type wheel powdercoated black.

found this (http://www.pbase.com/image/20469611) at suprafiend's pbase.com site -- i'm not sure if these rims are powdercoated, but they are black :D
