So out of nowhere while driving to a party saturday night, in torrential rain, my passenger side headlight goes down. I got under a gas station overhang and popped the hood to check things out, and it would not open. I tried turning the lights on and off a few times and nothing. So I figured hell, I'll just open it manually and leave it open. So I start turning the manual opener and as the light reaches about 1 1/2" open, the motor turns and pulls it back down. I was like wtg??? I tried again and the same thing, I cannot get it open. Anyone deal with these issues before.....any ideas???? I feel pwnored driving around all popeye style! :sadsmilie

I think you need to unplug the motor before you try to raise it manually.

something like that?
I had to unbolt the arm and swing it 180°

Very similar. Except mine won't raise up first then go down. It will only come up that 1 inch or so from turning the knob, then it pulls down real quick. So what was the problem with your causing this to happen? What did you need to replace/adjust/fix???

i had to unbolt the arm from the motor and swing it 180°. once i did that all was good...but if its just yanking it down without going up i'm not sure if its the same thing...also mine would kick up when i'd turn it off...

His would be the relay being faulty.

You mean mine? Can you tell me where the relay is located?

retractor relay

also test the diode for the motor
I have had a some how similar problem that my headlights doesn't pop up at all. The cure for me is jsut to put lights on and flash high beam, then they open. Dunno what's the real problem there.

I'm gonna print these out and check at my shop later. There is only 1 relay for both lights, I'm assuming....right?

I beivee it has two relays inside the box but dont quote me has I never opened one up.
Your symptom sounds like a lost ground/pos from the relay up position trace your wires even your plugs.

What sucks is, to clean the engine bay up some, I shoved all of those relays into the fenders where you can't see them. I hope I can get them out.....lol
