alright guys, Ive been searching threads for over an hour now so now im just going to ask, because it seems this was never covered. I am only concerned about the rear in this thread. I have an 83 L-type and am running 235/60/14 in the rear on stock P-type rims, with tokico hp shocks and stock height springs, and have had no rubbing and plenty of visible clearance left. but I want to know if 245 will clear the fenders. i know that p-types have no problems because of design differences, but no one seems to have tried it on a l-type and posted about it. the closest i could find was someone saying that they knew someone who runs 245/50/14 on an l-type. but that size tire seems to be unavailable where ever i look. so has anyone tried this or can someone point me towards where i can get 245/50/14.

thanks

Grunt or P.O.G.

You will probably have to ask around at local shops or get the numbers from shops that will ship, they are not likely to be made anymore in a street tire, but you may get lucky ans someone will have a set sitting in the back, you may even have to scrounge around and get them one at a time.

Hmmm, The design is the same is it not? u can add the fender flares to the L Type and it would be the same correct? the flares don't actually give u much more wheel space in terms of rubbing do they?
I'd say they would fit just fine! just go and get one tire test fitted, ring ur local tyre place, tell them ur dilema and ask if they can get in some 245/60/R14 and do a test fit? and tell them u would be willing to chuck them some money for the time spent finding it out? orrr
just get a mate round with a P-Type with 245s, and swappy to find out, I woudl, but I have difficulties driving to anywhere in the USA, giving I live in australia..haha

Yes, the P-type rims do fit 245/60r14's on the back in an L-type; and they look very nice as they really fill up the space back there.
I've had the dunlop GT qualifiers in 245's (not sold anymore! :sadsmilie) for many years now and they never scraped in the back. Actually, they even sat quite a bit higher than the old falkens I used to have which were very fat, but still no rubbing.

The front, however, cannot run 225/60r14's as they will bottom out and scrape the fender when hitting dips. Mine actually scrapes on every single bump and even on hard turns cause.. well, my car isn't in the best shape and my suspension is shot!, haha.

I am actually getting new tires this friday (ordered from tirerack.com).
BFG 245/60r14's for the back and 215/60r14's for the front.
If you want to wait till friday night I'll most likely have them on the car; I'll do a few runs around town to see how they fare and then take some pics so you can see what they look like. I'm thinking the fronts will still rub, but oh well, if they do I'll try 205's the next time for the front and just forget the white lettering I've grown so fond of. :D

You'll be fine with the 215/60's on the front. That's what I was running on the front of the L before I gave it to my sister. She gave it back to me 4 years later with 205/60s on the front, but I much preferred the 215/60s and will change it back when I buy tires next. I had the same experience you did with 225/60s up front. 245s on the back with 215s up front is going to look very 'jacked up', maybe too much. I'd like to see pictures of the rake of the car when you get these mounted up. Thanx.

I have an 83 L-type and am running 235/60/14 in the rear on stock P-type rims, L type rims would definitely not work for this.

No rubbing as of yet but I haven't driven it all too much today. I'll update on the rubbing again after the weekend maybe.

The question I'm wondering now is if you can lower an L-type with P-type rims and not scrape. The front definitely has the room to with the smaller tires, but unsure about the scraping.

Heres mine, lowered about 1'' 1/2 or so.

That looks pretty good. I would suggest you temporarily put a bunch of weight in the back and see if the rear wheels tuck in enough to clear the fenders with the suspension fully loaded.
