Would a nice set of jumper cables handle the load needed for relocating the battery? Seems like it would to me, but I've never used jumper cables longer than a few minutes at a time.
Sounds ghetto but I want to use my really long, 20ft or so, jumper cables to relocate the battery to the right rear.
Was wondering what anyone has to say about this.
Thanks in advance.

Unless if you already have that jumper cable set laying around, it would be cheaper to go to a "home improvement" type store and get the cables/ends from there.

The wiring you need isn't that expensive if bought by the foot somewhere like Radio-Shack, or use an Amp install kit. To get the jumper cables to stay in place you would have to cut off the clamps and install better ends anyway, so why bother with that route?

You only need one cable, positive, and I run a 0-gauge wire unde the rear seats, under the center-console, and out the firewall right behind the starter. You will want to bolt that wire straight to the starter and everything can backfeed from there. I hopped on ebay and found a new-take-off from a houseboat or something, came with cold-fused ends and works like a champ.

I have an extra set of jumper cables, so I wanted to skip buying new wires/cables.
I can easily use my current post clamps so that's another saved purchase.
I hadn't realized that I don't need a negative cable.
Thanks for the input. I need to work on a box for it and a way to secure it.

Well, you do need a ground, but not to the front of the car, just ground everything to the chassis. Just make sure, whatever you do, that you have suficient thickness that you aren't killing yourself cranking it over. With a 0-gauge wire, I have the smallest battery I could find (and it's about 5yrs old) and it has no trouble cranking my motor over for minutes at a time.

Don't forget to keep the fuseable link at the battery positive terminal for safety's sake.

I have to relocate it with the battery?

I would put a large fuse with the POS on the battery and still run everything else in the engine bay. The last thing you would want is the cable grounding out somewhere inside the car and starting a fire. Also if you are going to race it, many tracks will make you have an emergency batt disconnect somewhere near the drivers door.
you have to use a drycell or seal and vent outside

Dry cells can generate enough current to start the engine, specially on a bitter cold day ????
