View Full Version : Rear end Grinding noise while driving!

The rear end grinds when moving, I can't tell if its either side, or the differential. The Diff is lubed, and the inside of the right tire is worn. Is the axle broken? I don't know. I haven't had time to check it all out jacked up, but I did check the brakes, and it isn't the rotors. Help if you know..... :sadsmilie

Put the rear end up on jackstands, put the car in neutral and spin the wheels, listen for the noise.

wow this thread is old. I've read a lot and I'm sure its the differential now.

rear end noise in a mk2. imagine that. i just ignore it till it doesnt work then fix it but thats just me

:laugh:That's what I did, and it ended up killing itself pretty well. My problem was that the pinions on the spring plate for the spider gears sheared off at some point in time and that let the upper spring plate move around.

If u have lsd use Ford (and only Ford) friction fluid and dino oil for quieter operation.
