My stock 1982 Supra speedometer needle has been jumping around for years. Recently the speedometer or speedometer cable is squealing in the instrument panel. I was wondering if anyone has replaced the speedometer cable? The Haynes manual I have says disconnect the speedometer cable to remove the instrument panel but it doesn't say anything about the procedure to replace the speedometer cable. I have removed the cable at the manual transmission when I replaced the clutch. I was also wondering if there are several cables in series rather than 1 long speedometer cable?
Any infomation on a procedure to replace the speedometer cable or cables would be appreciated.
Thanks

It is just one cable with an elbow connector at the tranny. The clip to speedo can be a pain to unhook, especially if you have big hands. If I remember right it just pushes back on to reconnect.

An easy fix you could try, is unhook cable at tranny elbow connector, get a cordless drill and attach to cable. slowly turn drill and pull cable out. clean rust off cable grease and re insert. hook up and test drive. I did this 6 years ago and had no problems .
good luck

Keyfoo,
I took your advice and hooked a drill to the disconnected speedometer cable and pulled the cable out. I lubricated the cable with a product I have had for years called Lubriplate. Now the noise is gone and so is the jumping around of the speedometer needle.
Thanks
