Yeah, cuz mounting your afm and air filter right over the exhaust manifold is what you want to do.

exactly what i was thinking. plus, how are you supporting it? 1 hose clamp? would suck when it falls off.

second supra that i've seen with this setup. 1st one i saw in person recently. The 1st cars reasoning for putting the afm there was so the big cone filter would fit.

Sell ur cone to a honduh guy and buy a chimpy intake setup. He offers a cone that direct fits in the stock box area AND also offers a CAI that drops the filter out of the engine bay. ;)

well i am going to shield it and put a scoop right over it so it wont be that bad and its not losing power at all? im driving it and it fells a heall of a lot better

if you can make a decent box with a piece of weatherstriping around it so when the hood shuts it seals it and a functional scoop it wouldn't be bad...

will look ugly but w/e

Too bad the convectional heat from the exhaust manifold will still be heating up the air inside the box, possible more so than how it is already.

Your better off stock kid.

Buy this
http://store.summitracing.com/partdetail.asp?autofilter=1&part=SUM-622005&N=700+115&autoview=sku

and cut and weld yourself up a intake pipe like so
http://forums.celicasupra.com/showthread.php?t=36380&highlight=Summit+Racing+Intake

then either build a small box around your filter in stock location and take advantage of fender air, or dril 3 " hole and relocate the filter down like the chimp kit (which you would need 1 more u bend)

Ok in my defense he had a CAI system that he thought would work. It was the wrong size pipe. I wanted to replace the intake but i made the mistake of jokingly a "stubby intake". We test fitted it he liked the response he got out of it. Him and his Dad are supposed to be making a full heat shield ( like some jeeps and other trucks use that really work) and a functional hood scoop to direct air into the CAI for a true CAI. They should be mounting a bracket to hold the Cone and the AFM.

And as for the blind leading the blind comment i didn't take to kindly to it. To each his own i don't mind a little razing about this because i know its sucking in warm air and i warned him of this. It is his car and his desire. I am not blind but i lead with a different light

Was talking to a local member years ago about his plans for a race car. He was gonna run a straight pipe to fender area, put afm inside fender, with a pod filter sticking out side of car.

your standard k&N cone fits in the stock location. thats whats on my car. dont really see the need for much bigger, its a pretty big filter.

as far as feeling a response...maybe when its cold. but i doubt it. the car is probably a little louder since your deleted the resonator. you hear it more so you think its faster. sad truth with intakes. if anything, your stock intake had some cracks and was letting in un-metered air, now youve eliminated that.

save up for a nice intake. or, if your feeling ambitious, make your own. i have a stocker because i dont have the money or the ambition right now.

Criticism is not usually taken well. I thought you were the other person who had done this to their car though, my bad.

No problems but in the end it is our own cars and we all do what we like and see fit to our taste. It is nothing to say your opinion but sometimes your opinion can be taken more as an attack then opinion. I hope i didn't offend you with my comment that i made in return of yours. I was just stating that my taste may be different from yours. I'm not going into details with taste differences.

But no problems in the end we can all be friends, brother and sisters in the end we are all brought together either with motor, drive trains or cars themselves.

LOL No it was partly an experiment and me trying to help him to decide not to sale his L-type. This was more along the lines he saw my CAI and wanted one with his little L-type pipe was the wrong size. like i said He is planning on making it right or i will be making it right when he goes off to basic.

hahaha we had a good weekend but the reason for the intake is because im going to make it a true ram air with a scoop and heat shield hopefully before i go to basic in two weeks but i might just get mavrick to finish it:salute:

See, that is what you get out in western VA. Over here in southeastern VA we don't do silly things like this.

We have other stupid stuff we do instead!
