heyas,

Stuck the sound system in today at school, had the car over a mechanic pit (in the ground, to work underneath car) and was poking around inspecting suspension, g/box etc. and found that i do NOT have an o2 sensor on the exhaust?? Its a 5mge. i have read that ALL 5mge's have o2 sensors, is my car missing it, or did i get incorrect info???

If it is missing it, would it be worth purchasing one from Toyota and installing it myself? (worth any extra power??)

ALSO, my dash doesnt have the engine check light, (only 85 onwards had it, so i have read) so does that mean i have to take codes the ol' fashion way? (ie, with a multimeter?)

thanxs guys

You need several other questions answered first!!!!

Obviously, since you are in Australia, we need to know what kind of MKII you REALLY have!!! Is it an actual AUS Spec MKII (which NEVER came w/ the 5MGE, it had the 5ME, thus you have a 5MGE transplant), or do you have a JDM CelicaXX 2800GT that was imported from Japan (which obviously does have the 5MGE standard).

(Edit: Just now noticed that your car has had 2 previous engine transplants. 5ME --> 2JZ-GTE --> now 5MGE).

If it is a JDM CelicaXX import, then hopefully a few NZ (or possibly Satoshi) can chime in & answer some questions about this version.

If it IS a AUS spec MKII, can any of the AUS members recall IF or even WHEN the AUS Spec cars came with TCCS??? I can't recall if the AUS spec 5ME's ever came with TCCS or not. If your AUS Spec 84 does not even have TCCS (Toyota Computer Control System), then you can't even pull any Check Engine codes, because there is nothing to pull. Because of some of the oddball emission regulations you guys had (along w/ Sweden & Switzerland), this is the reason why you guys got the 5ME, rather than the 5MGE. And I can't remember if the AUS spec 5ME had a O2 sensor or not.

(Okay, I just now read another one of your postings (about the oil pressure light) & you just made things MORE confusing!!!! WHAT CAR DO YOU REALLY HAVE!!! AUS Spec Celica Supra that "formerly" had the 5ME, or a JDM Spec CelicaXX (that only had 1 of 3 different motors: 1G-GEU, M-TEU, or the 5MGE!! A JDM CelicaXX never came w/ a 5ME).

Get back to us w/ some clarification. Thanks!!

Other AUS members: Did your cars "ever" get TCCS at all, and starting with what year????

its an Aus spec ma61, with a 5m-ge, aus spec the badges say "celica supra', while the JDM ones say Celica XX, right??

It doesnt have TCCS as far as i can see under the hood, the connectors which are used to pull codes are connected to what seems to be a heat sink, but i only have the 1 and 2 pin connectors, not the third connector with 3 pins.

o2 sensor wise, im still unsure, can anybody help me out with it??

cheers

What exactly is your question ?

Are you experiencing mechanical failure ?

well iam unsure of whether it is running rich or not, i would say it is, as my mate was choking on the black cloud i left him with last week, although i didnt see the smoke (dark tint) i wouldnt know whether it is overfueling or not,

but was wondering if there was an easy way to tell if it is supposed to have an o2 sensor, since it has xtractors it may not have been put back in, wat does the connector look like and where is it normally located??
