Let me know if you can't find any info on how to do it. I need to take off my tank to check the condition since I just got my 84 2 months ago. I can take pics for you.

It has 114K miles on it and I beleive it is an external pump so i dont think it will be to hard to replace if the lines arent completely seized on to it.

82 was the only year for the extermal pump. 83+ are all internal.

Um... my 83 had an external pump.....
I've changed both external and internal fuel pumps, external is a 20 minute job, internal is a couple of hours

Could be a blocked pump pickup putting strain on the pump. Take a close listen and start wrenching!

My next question is would it be better to install a Walboro 225 or a stocker. I plan on a 7mgte swap in the future, the reason im asking is that there is only about a $30 difference in the two. If i installed this would i need to make any other mods to my NA motor as of now. Thanks

...go for the walbro, but you will need to drill out the "J" tube, which bolts to the block above your drivers side motor mount, and has the fuel return hose attached to both ends. ...pull them off, and you'll notice one side has a restriction in it. ...drill that out to the diameter of the tube and blow the shavings out with brake cleaner (or anything in a pressurized can for that mattter). Put her all back together and enjoy.

I agree with Billy on this Except one thing.... I HATE WALBORO pumps unless they are actually true walboros. Ive went through 3 of those dam things and I decided enough was enough and installed a MKIV TT pump. For some the walboro works, make sure you get it from someone honest and all if you decide to go that route.
Last one I had took a Shit on me right after the Scenic Drive in Vegas. Phil Dupler was with me and we pulled into the parking Garage, Heard this loud ass scream noise. Shut the car off, went into the Hotel, Came back out, and attempted to start the car..... .nothing...... Ended up dropping the tank right there and replacing a FP while the show and shine was going on. Thanks to Jay for having a Spare pump in his car......
900 mile drive back home from there.....

I disagree, put a stock one back in it...everybody wants to go 7mgte eventually but if i takes you awhile at least you dont have to listen to that screaming walbro all the time...yes theyre loud and annoying....
before you start wrenching , get under the car with some WD-40 or some PB blaster or equvilent and spray down the tank strap bolts and the fuel lines where they bolt together...do this for a couple days everyday before you drop the tank....if you can afford it go buy yourself a set of line wrenches to do the job right....if you srtrip those line nuts you will kick yourself in the ass for not using line wrenches....good luck sir!
