Fellow Readers,

My "L" has less than 100K orig on it and starts fine in the morning;
but sometimes it will start idling and driving on less than 6 and be that way for upwards of 10 miles before it evens out and sometimes it will start and run on 6 and be fine all day

Some times on the "Bad" days if i feather the pedal just so, it will smooth out to 6 or if i down shift it will clear up...

Am i looking at Igniter/Reluctor? T.P.S.? A.F.M.?

I am avg about 200 mi a tank! I think i am reluctantly looking forward to getting my 96'
3 cyl Metro up and running..

Any suggestions accepted..

Thank You

add fuel cleaner/solvent (inexpensive kind will do) to your gas for starters.

When was the last time you did a complete tune-up? Does the problem get worse on rainy days?

Do a tune up! Cap, rotor, plugs and wires would help alot. I get 200 a tank but I do very little highway driving and I have a lead foot. Also check what the plugs look like when you pull them out. They can show signs of other problems.

I would suggest some diagnostic work instead of "shotgunning" it in hopes of a magical mystery cure.

Are you getting spark to all the cylinders or is it an injector problem? Is there moisture/oil in the spark plug wells? Are there signs of carbon tracking inside the dist cap? Are all the connections tight at the coil? Is there good continuity at all of the grounds, is the fuel pump operating properly etc etc etc
