This is pretty basic info that not only search could give you but any good store that sells speakers.

Look around it's been posted before, usually have to put 5 1/4 rear and 3.5 or 4 front.

Only the stock deck uses it. Unless you get creative...

take that crappy speaker out from under the dash. waste of space/weight. 3.5's up front and 5.25's out back are petty much direct drop in's. just drill new screw holes for the rear. you can fit bigger speakers, its been done, just involves some creativity to make them fit.

I need to listen to that 4 under the glove and see if it's playing, you say only the stock deck uses it?

I've got new 3.5s, 6x9s sitting in the backseats and 10s in the trunk. The only stock speakers left are the one under the glove and up beside the seats. The stock 3.5s got loud as hell, wish I hadn't tossed them and did what I did to the new ones I got (NO bass in them at all, just LOUD). May put tweeters there one day.

the speaker under the glove box is more like a 5". its useless. supposed to be a "sub". you dont want bass in a 3.5" speaker... sounds like ass, imo. i just ordered bass blockers for my 4 speakers to clear things up. i dont want any bass from the 4 speakers, thats what the sub in the trunk is for. hopefully this will give me the clean sound ive been wanting.

Yea instead of ordering bass blockers, I ran them to the amp and put the HPF on at like 400 haha, no bass at all comes through them now. Took me a while to do it yesterday, but she right.

Yea, if that speaker is not really being used, I should think of something to put there haha. I need to run the speakers besides the seats too, but they can't even be heard over the 6x9s back there, so I might not bother unless I hear fuzz and stuff one day.

The stock decks have a seperate amp section built into them for the 5" subwoofer under the glovebox.

Use a 5.25" then like suggested by speaker manufactures.

i dont think anyone has fit 6x9's in the stock spot and still retained the factory speaker cover. with some cutting/grinding, you should be able to some 5x7's without too much trouble and still keep the factory cover.

There is also a woofer driver under the center arm rest on some 85s. I know my 84 and 82 do not have them.

from the way i understand it, our stock rear speakers are old 5x7's, which are smaller then todays 5x7's, but a little bigger then today's 4x6's.

yeah the rear speakers were around the size of a 4X6 but fit into the frame of a 5X7. I did a little bending and drilling and lowered the speaker supports into the hole a little bit to try to save some of the rear speaker cover.

In the end you have to cut and sand the rear speaker grill if you put anything much larger than a 5X7 into the hole. For my solution, I sanded and then ran foam around the edges to absorb some of the vibrations from the much more powerful speakers.

Looks original in the end!

I'm still running the stock rears. I hadn't been running them for awhile, but now they're being used, just for fill, I don't worry about hearing them for real.

I made door pods for 6x9s, so I have 6x9s in the doors. Not the "prettiest" job, but very very functional. Sounds awesome. And of course 2 10s in the trunk help too. I was gonna put speaker cloth over the pods, but I gotta finish painting the passenger one black and that's enough for me. I'm not worried about the look so much as if it works, and they damn sure work.

I have titanium dome tweeters sitting in the dash, but I don't have them hooked up to anything, they're just sitting for now.

I'm thinking about picking up a pair of Kenwood 5x7's http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://www.caraudio4less.co.uk/images/KENWOOD-KFC-S5782C.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.caraudio4less.co.uk/alpine-car-audio-5x7-speakers-spr57lp-p-1346.html&usg=__MGA0pTskDrhsS8laRYFKZeplfl0=&h=383&w=640&sz=74&hl=en&start=5&tbnid=Z2VI944kxtVmYM:&tbnh=82&tbnw=137&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dkenwood%2B5x7%2B3%2Bway%2Bspeaker%26g bv%3D2%26hl%3Den%26client%3Dfirefox-a%26rls%3Dorg.mozilla:en-US:official%26sa%3DG for the rear shelves, and mounting my TRX-60 pioneer subs to the back of the rear seats, add another amp, and install some 6" triaxial speakers in the doors, and call it a day.

I tried installing the same ones Greg. No luck without a bit of fab work. It is a very tight space.

I'll probably just start off with a 10" sub at the rear, some quality door speakers, and tweeters in the dash, and scratch the idea of using speakers at that location.
Maybe later put something there, but if it sounds good without...it probably won't happen.
