ive been having this problem for a while now. when i pull the gas door release lever, the door doesnt pop out like it used to. it doesnt pop out at all. it takes two people to open the gas door, one to pull the release and one to open the door while the release it up. really inconvenient. is there an adjustment i can make so that it pops out again? thanks.

You can lube the gas goor button. There is no adjustment for the cable. You can also look to see if the lever arm is bent or broke.

I had this same problem, what i did was get a couple of lock washers (the kind with the slit in them) and put them on the end of the cable, right before the little ball. This is in the back fender. it makes the cable tighter and so when you pull it it will make sure and get the latch undone.

Jason got my answer.
Is the metal arm still there??? That's what will push the door out, unless that small little latch is not releasing all the way.

im guessing the metal arm is the thing on the door. yea thats there. cant remember if its bent or not, ill have to look in the morning. i think the latch is releasing all the way because if someone holds the release lever up, the door opens freely when you pull on it.

Mine use to do that same thing...in fact you only had to pull it like normall then use a card or something to get the door open just cause it wasnt popping out...using washers to tighten the cable fixed the problem....

Think you will find that the "metal arm" which should be bent and actually has a rubberized coating on it IIRC. has either broken or is completely folded and no longer pushing the door open. Looks like the mkii and mkiii may use the same spring clip, so may be able to use this.

Item# 77366 is what you're looking for.

yeah... it's almost always that part.
You could probably find any Toyota in a salvage yard and pull the same part.
Or any type of spring will work in an emergency.
