I got the KYB GR-2's. But for the front it looks like shock rather than strut. It doesn't have the lower plate that holds the spring. Is it normal? Does our srtut comes apart? Or did I get the wrong one?

Thanks

Attila,

"Assuming" that you did order the correct ones, the front strut "cartridges", should look like a long colored tube that has a long silver rod sticking out of it. You then need to take apart the front strut assemblies & remove the old strut cartridge & replace it w/ the new one.

If you did order something that looks like one of the rear shocks (that has 2 attachment points on each end), or something that has a lower plate that holds the spring, then you ordered the wrong item.

Also, if you have never replaced these front strut cartridges before (assuming that you will be doing this yourself), NOW IS THE TIME TO ASK THE FORUMS ON HOW TO DO THIS!!!! You will need to make sure that you have the correct tools to do this, like a spring compressor

Have fun!!!! :D

It does not have the lower plate, so it possibly the right one.
I guess I will know for sure once I take it apart.
Thanks Chris!

It will probably not look anything like the stock strut cartridge, since the stock one (or at least the one that came out of MY supra!) did not have any housing around the cartridge, and a lot of oil came out of the main strut housing. I too have the gr2's, and if its got a round bottom with no plate or anything on it, you've probably got the right one. It just slides into the main housing and bolts back in place.
Replacing the front struts really isn't too hard, but it is a bit messy and somewhat dangerous if you try to compress a spring without the proper tool ( them springs can really fly-don't ask how I know this!)! They rent the tool at most parts stores, so that shouldn't be an issue.
Good luck on the install!

Thanks! I should be able to change them no problem, I am going to rent a decent spring compressor... The only thing I worry about is loosening the bolts.
By any chance do you know the part number of your front shock/strut?

sorry, I don't. I'm in the process of unpacking everything in our new house, so finding my receipts are going to take a few more weeks! I really hate moving.....
