This is a start ;0

I have this 71 XS650. Bike isnt perfect and it has a '74 engine. Got it for free, looked like hell and sat since '81. Obviously didnt run. $600 later its 90% done. I plan on adding stock style bars and reverse megaphone pipes. Still need a few misc bits to make it right. (side cover badges and correct rear fender) This is my 1st old bike..and its been fun. I think Im hooked!

CelSup, If you ever decide to have a Supra meet at your place, I would cross a couple states to check all that out in person. Wow!

I love the 80's bikes. Esp the 500 vfr's. I know they are not rocket fast but they look so much better than the 750's imho. I have two 500's and a parts bike.

This one I ride to work....25 miles each way. If it is above 40 degrees and I can get there dry I am on it. I did put the stock pipes back on it....didn't like the look of the Yoshi's.

Not vintage but it is crazy fast. 99% perfect. A guy I worked with saw me on the Interceptor and asked if I wanted a Ninja that he never rode. Was in the back of his garage. It had not moved in ten years. About 9k on it. Asked if I would give him $1500. I said yes and went home to get the trailer.

Very cool CS. You really have some badass unique stuff. I want another old Jap bike....seems like the early CBs are trading for good $$$. Any tips? I like standards, not into the the 70s cruiser style. The early sport bikes seems pretty cool too.

Thanks CelSup, that really means something coming from someone with your collection.

One question for you vintage bike guys...

Tires: period correct, or something with some grip? This bike is GOING to get ridden.

3.0x18 Front, 3.25x18 Rear. What does that convert to? 90/90 100/90?

Damn you guys! now Im wanting to go out and buy an old bike, lol.

whats better than a pic of a vintage bike? Vintage pics of a vintage bike!

Back when I lived in the Mojave desert I bought a bone stock '79 KZ650 and put a bunch of work into it. You have to excuse the quality and size of the pics, I only had an old Kodak 110 instamatic then.

Custom hand rubbed lacquer paint I did in my garage came out pretty nice I thought at the time.

A couple of weeks after those pics were taken I was headed out to a desert party with 2 bottles of beer in a backpack...when BLAM! Some stupid bitch took a left turn across my path. When asked by the cop why there were no skid marks on my part, I said I had about enough time to think "OH SHI..."

please note the orientation of the headlight in relation to the front wheel. Please also note the right side of the hardened steel race bars I put on and how it was bent forward by the impact of my right ankle...

I'm up to about 500 miles, still scheduled for the safety course. Freeways freak me out but I'm getting better. 65 mph is my max (this from a guy that does 50 mph downhill on a bicycle). At least in summer weather as I haven't ridden in wet, and have no need to. I must thank monkey for pushing my envelope, but still listening when I say stuff doesn't make sense, or I'm not comfortable.

Thx Bill. ~$1200 total. (almost half of it is in badges and seat) BUT, numbers don't match, right stripe is screwed up, it still leaks (will fix during winter) the read fender is broken, hand controls are non original and the forks need major love. Def not a $$$ maker...but its cool as hell and a great learning opp for a turd like me. I WILL buy a mint bike in the winter....this got me into the old bikes big time.

This is one of my many projects I have on the go. Haven't worked on it since I bought my 81 Pick up in June. It's a 1969 Honda CB450, got it from my mentor it was looking rough as it had been sitting since 1979. But it was pretty complete. I started cleaning it up and going through it. I got it running, but it needs some fine tuning, and it needs a clutch and I should pull apart the brakes and check those too. Once most of that is sorted out, I'll get some new tires and maybe drive it a bit in it's unrestored form. When I get some of my other projects together I plan to tear this one apart and do a resto on it.

I just bought my 1st Supra on Friday and I've already introduced myself to the forum, and so when I found this thread I thought I'd better chip in. I have a few other old bikes, but they're in various states of disassembly, so no photos yet.

This is my '66 Yamaha YM1 305 2-smoker. I don't have the '74 Honda CB550 shown on the trailer anymore.

Very nice! I always crack up when people give the SV's too much credit for being the best all-round standard v-twin. The nt650 was well before it's time, saddled with poor marketing in a time when people thought they needed an inline-four and fairings to be cool. The colors on that 66 are BEAUTIFUL.

Yeah, and most of the young squids have never even heard of a HawkGT anyways. It's always fun telling them it's as old as they are! The looks on their faces!

The paint scheme on the '66 is totally factory correct, even though it's a repaint. Only non-standard item on the bike is the low handlebars (and the small mirror), but the European 250 version of the bike had low bars; so I figured I could take some liberties with the handlebars.

Haha...I'm assuming you mean that none of the '85 MR2s were supercharged; they're awesome, but people want silly money for them if they are in nice condition, so I'll 'make do' with my NA...

If you find out what type of Honda is under the tarp, hit me up, I'm a minor expert on collectable Honda bikes...

That '86 Toy pickup...boy if it doesn't need too much work, that'd be a keeper, especially with such low miles...I believe '86 was the first year the 4x4 had the independent front suspension. I remember riding around in a '80 Toy 4x4 a friend had, the one with the leaf-spring front end -- rough roads were enough to have your head bouncing off the roof!

I "think" it was a '66. And it was up in Canada. I "upgraded" to a Honda 175 after that and then moved on through a steady progression of bikes. At one time I had one brother working for the local Honda dealer while at the same time the other brother worked for Yamaha dealer. made for an interesting time at the house. At one time we had 13 bikes in the garage that we owned and a few visiting...

Well, we can be certain it wasn't a '67, as '66 was the last year of these style Yamahas. I'm sure the 175 Honda was lower maintenance, but probably not quite as exciting as the Yami 2-smoker. 13 bikes, huh? I'll bet you have some pretty damned good memories of those times.

Yep. There were some pretty cool rides back in the day. I keep looking around for something interesting (as opposed to fast and uncomfortable LOL) but it'll be a while until I'm riding again. I promised my wife that I'd wait until after the kids were done college before I got another one. That was just after they picked me up at the emergency room when some random lady made the classic LHT from behind a truck and totaled my GS850G. I never saw her coming!

I even had the CX500T - the first Honda Turbo. It was a very smooth ride...

Fortunately, I haven't ever crashed (knock on wood); they say it's not a matter of if, but when, though don't they? I got out of bikes when I was married, but since I got kicked to the curb about 10 years ago, I've gotten back into it with a vengeance. I don't even really date anymore, I've found that vehicles are much lower maintenance than women! Ahem, my apologies to any of the ladies in the audience...

Those CX turbos are highly collectable nowadays, they seem to have cult following.

Hmmm...looks pretty complete and unmolested. However, one thing I've learned (the hard way) about old bikes is it's always cheaper to buy someone else's restored bike, as they'll take the financial hit --instead of you -- unless it's so rare and unobtainable to make it worth the $$$ spent on the resto.

But, if you're looking for something to do, and just for the love of it, my above statement is irrelevant...

just got off the phone with the ORIGINAL OWNER, bought it in 1966 and put 2500 miles on the bike, parked it where it sits today, triumph had a recall on the bottom bearing, they installed a new Roller bearing in 1968, never been down, he had a great story to tell .... Cool !!
Will look good in the collection, I will post pics when detailed and running !!

it sits on original tires, grips and seat cover...:-)

I personally do not like other peoples resto's projects , I like original condition bikes/cars that have had only one owner.

Bizzare in a good way! I just sold my house down in Denver, but when I recover from my beating I plan on getting some sort of excessive garage/man cave/curio museum all for myself...
