So i picked up a set of ssr formula meshes from our fellow member 7mgt-66e. Great guy and was pleased with my new set of wheels.
Only problem being the heavy oxidation and road grime coated on them.
These wheels called for a complete refinishing.
Found a local guy who agreed to do them for a fixed price per rim.
So i dropped them off looking like this...

They all had a bit of curb rash as well so they needed treatment asap!

So took him about a week and a half and i got the call on wed.

Finally went to pick them up today and man are they pretty!

And he even scrubbed out the backside for me.

Not perfect but should do quite nicely on my coupe

Still need to drop the centers off for sandblasting and powdercoat but need to save a bit more money first :32:

Wanna play gotta pay right!

Anyways hope you guys enjoy the pictures watch out for powercoated centers coming soon!

Anyone know where to get replacement (new) bolts when i go to put them back together???
Any help is always appriciated!!!
Enjoy!

looks great cant wait to see the finished product!!

On the bolts, take an example to the nearest fastner company and tell them what they are for. They will be able to hook you up deifinatly!!

I got my new nuts and bolts from Grainger. Don't know if you have one around there. Make sure you op for the rust resistant bolts. My are all rusty will have to be replace with better quality ones.

Wheels looks great. Post pics when finished as well as on the car.

damn man... That is nice! How about the mesh? You are going to powder coat it? Do you think it is a good idea to clear coat the lip or not? How much for the service?

William you are 100% correct on no matter what it cost it was worth it!

I had started on another set of ssr's and with the tools and equipment i have it still would take me about 8 hrs per rim.

So instead i had him polish them for $100 a piece, id say my time was worth more than the $12.50 per hour lol.

Robin,
I have the centers at the same shop getting blasted right now and then ill take them to the powdercoaters.

Not sure what hes gonna charge yet for the powdercoating, but ill get back on that.

Im also not quite sure yet what color, i may just stick with the original Gold.

As far as the lips ive heard about this product from Eastwood called "Diamond Clear".

Heres a link to the product http://www.eastwoodco.com/shopping/product/detailmain.jsp?itemType=PRODUCT&RS=1&itemID=415&keyword=10200Z

Anyone used this product before?

Supposed to put a protective coating on the alum to keep them nice and shiny

Its either that or getting the clear powdercoated.

Havent quite decided yet so any suggestion would be appriciated.

Im still sourcing bolts and have now started getting my suspension put together.

Man talk about a money pit!

Stay tuned for more pics soon and thanks for all the positive comments!

I have not seen your car yet. What color is it? I like gold mesh on certain car colors but usually you cant go wrong with gun metal color :)

Very nice Celica and new WHEELS to go with it! So smart to hire someone to do the polishing. More than worth it! Realized it after countless hours of learning to do it on stock wheels a few years ago. One time accidentally dropped a big wrench onto the last wheel after polishing it, then put them all in the basement ever since. lol Was planning to go with no clear, but realized it would be hard to maintain bare aluminum. Also heard of eventual yellowing on some of the spray can clears. But still think clear is the best protection on polished aluminum and alot easier to maintain.

Sharp wheels man. I'd say go with the black. It matches the trim better on a mk2 sup or a mk3 celica. I've went back and forth between black, gold and bronze, and I def. wish I had stayed with the black.

I assumed you've seen my other SSR's. But if not, here they are again. I suggest you go to the shop and show them the exact color you want. I did that on my first set and it came exactly like I wanted. As for the second set, I just said gold and it came back a color I wasn't too happy about. You can tell the difference in the pics. I know yours will come out looking good.

First set.

As for clear coating them, I didn't do it to mine. I think the clear coat is harder to maintain than the bare alum. But yes, the bare is more prone to damages. So you have a advantage/disadvantage to consider. My wheels are mainly for show, so I don't ride on them everyday. Only for special events.

the second wheel pic isn't even gold! It's mustard yellow! I think good gold (like the first pics) looks hot on a white car, I would go with gold!

Yeah that second gold looks like it was made by French's lol.
That first color is beautiful!
Ill think ill print off that first picture of youres and take it with me to the powdercoaters just to make sure i get exactly what im looking for.
And thanks for all the compliments on my car guys it means alot!
I have so much in store for my car its getting me antsy to hurry up and finish but after making a "to do" list im realizing it probably wont be done till next spring :32:
Although with the conditions we have today it doesnt make me feel too bad.
Heres some pics of lovely springtime in Colorado.

That's today in Colorado? Man you guys are getting a beat down. No wonder there are so many plane delays over there. Glad I'm in 99% sunny Cali. Reminds me of MN winters. Glad I moved, and will never go back but to visit.

If your brother doesn't want his car to get hit, he better moved it off the street before someone loses control and takes it out.

Heres some pics.

Looking pretty good my brother said i should just clearcoat em like that lol.

Also called another place about sandblasting my MK1 rearend heres some pics of it in present condition.

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee308/kebatcho230/IMG_0352.jpg

http://i233.photobucket.com/albums/ee308/kebatcho230/IMG_0354.jpg

So asked him for a quote to sandblast the whole axle he said it would probably only take him from 30-45mins and charge between 60-75 bucks!

Im planning on coating it with Por-15 when it gets back from the blasters

I should be dropping it off on monday along with the centers to the powdercoaters.

Also got my suspension coming within the next week and will have some pics to share from that as well.

Hopefully it all starts coming together soon :zzzzz:
