After reading all 38-pages of the sticky-thread and doing some searching, I am delirious. Being at work (most of the images are blocked) and I am specifically looking for references to us L-type guys. The following 3 (Only three!) posts in the thread refer to fitment for L-type MKII's.

First Identified posting by Junkie...
SSR Longchamps Gunmetal = 17x7 +25 front, 17x8 +25 rear...Perfect fit IMHO with 225/45 front, 255/40 rear (SSR is Speed Star Racing, 'Longchamps' are model XR-4Z

Second Identified post (sorry forgot who posted to give credit)
Rota RB and RB-R ... 17x7.5 +20 should fit fine. Even the Ltype

Then 3rd posting on Page 27:
For Ltype love you might remember this... Here are two pics I took of a 17x9 +0 offset wheel with a 245/40-17 tyre mounted to the rear of one of my Ltypes. A little tight and will probably rub. 17x9 +6 offset wheel with a 245/40-17 tyre would be better.

Does anyone else have any other information to weigh in for us L-Types? I am specifically looking for 17" wheels to clear the Jim King BBK that is installed. I have also have ST's in rear and coil-overs in front to further reduce my clearance. Thank you.

Silver center Rota RB's.

I had them for sale for a while, no bites, so now just want to see how they fit.

Not sure if they will fit but those sizes do not appear to be available in gunmetal. Would be cool to have the gunmetal/red instead of gunmetal/silver.

These are nice wheels. Where did you find the offset info? All I see is lug number (not even pattern), width, color, lip size. I realize they are double drilled for probably 4x114.3 and 4x100 but the rest is ???.

Offered in 4 and 5 bolt. Pic is of a 5 bolt wheel.

Those might fit damn well. ...maybe a 10mm spacer out back, running some 235/45's front and 255/40's rear...

I'm not a fan of multi-lug, but I might rock those on a L-type for the price!

those do look nice.. if only they would fit with the z32 4 pot conversion.. im sure it will be a tight fit.

Hey BillyM,

Did you ever get to test-fit your wheels on an L-type? How did they work out for you?

BillyM
01-21-2010, 05:57 PM
I sure didn't... got busy, didn't have an L at my disposal.

...but now I own one and need to do some brake and suspension work/upgrading in the future, so I'll pull the springs and slap the following on for testing and photo/document spacing at full articulation at both ends.

1: 17x7.5 +20mm /w 225/45
2: 17x8.5 +20mm /w 235/45
3: 17x8.5 +04mm /w 255/40

I might make a mini-meet weekend out of it, and invite others in so we can get a good solid assortment of fitments to test. That'd be helpful...

There is another thread also trying to figure out which wheel and tire combo would be best for our L-types.

http://forums.celicasupra.com/showthread.php?t=19285

At the end of this thread, there are pics of Rota D2's. This was going to be my setup:

Front:
- JK BBK
- eibach coilover kit (300# springs)
- AGX adjustable shocks
- Rota D2: 7.5 x 17 +25 in a 4x114.3 with 225/45/17 tires

Rear:
- OEM calipers with brembo rotors
- RaptorRacing Lowered Dobinson Springs (300#)
- Isuzu Trooper II Shocks
- Rota D2 8.5 x 17 +25 in a 4x114.3 with 255/40/17 tires

The only problem with this is that the D2 are only available now in Gold or Black. For those of you who desire these colors, help yourself. It is now impossible to find a gunmetal to match my trim.

So then I turned to the Rota RBs. The closest available size for my application is a change in the offset from +25 to +20.

- Rota RB: 7.5 x 17 +20 in a 4x114.3 with 225/45/17 tires
- Rota RB: 8.5 x 17 +20 in a 4x114.3with 255/40/17 tires

These are also limited to silver or black and very few quantities left. I was going to pick up a staggered silver set, see what they looked like on my car (not sure if silver would look good with my setup) and perhaps painting these gunmetal in color might be easier than other color options. I am trying to determine if this combination will work on my L-type. Does anyone have any experience with this combination? Specifically, will the front wheel/tire combination rub?

Thanks everyone!
Chadrick

Chadrick,

If you are going to repaint anything, get the D2s. From my experience with the D2s on the street and the track, I can tell you with confidence that the rears from either set should clear fine. The fronts on the D2 will rarely rub with a strong suspension, and can probably be corrected with some grinding on a couple bolt heads. However, since mine have rubbed a time or two in extreme circumstances, my guess is sticking out another 5mm will only compound the problem. I am sure the tires play some small role in this as well. Now you know how I felt when I was trying to make a decision for my L-type :)

CelicaFanatic: Your setup looks sweet; however, I need a 17" option to clear the JK BBK.

John,

Man this is frustrating. I had Billy convinced to try those RB's on this weekend. I am hoping that he has better news but I believe you, that the fronts will probably rub. That leaves me to either get black D2s until I can paint them or hope for good news from Billy and pray that the silver staggered set of RBs are still available.

Thanks for the input, John.

OK all...taking a gamble here.

Plan for wheels and tires:
- Front: Rota RB 7.5 x 17 +20 4x114.3 with center caps and 225/45/17 tires
- Rear: Rota RB 8.5 x 17 +20 4x114.3 with center caps and 255/40/17 tires

Wheels have arrived today! :)

I have some suspension work to do, get some tires and test fitment...all to be done soon.

More to come!

Here's a set of SSR 15x7 Formula Mesh rims that would look great on an L-type:

And a set of 16x8 +25 five spoke rims that I have that might fit (haven't tried them yet) - not sure if they would need a spacer or not.
