I was so inspired by Tire Shreader's wheel restoration sticky I decided to polish, and paint my set. Once the weather turned nice and I could work outdoors...I began to work on the project. This is the first one of four.

Thanks all. I didn't put near the effort, and money into it that Tire Shreader did on his, but I think they'll be good enough for me lookin like this.
Once my car is painted, it'll be black again, and it has stainless steel panels down both sides the length of the car, from the bottom of the side moldings to the rockers....so I figured the wheels would look good polished with black paint.

I did that 2 years ago and now this past winter made them none too happy. The look decent from about 5 ft away, but when you get closer, you can see all the pitting, time to get more sandpaper again and thumb splints:sadsmilie

Not sure how much truth there is to it, but I was told if you keep a coat of wd-40 on them in the winter season....they will stay nice, and no pitting.

I just didn't keep up with cleaning them. But I doubt that WD-40 would stick to the polish I use, but it is an interesting idea.

Nice,I always thought these were one of the coolest stock wheels.
I gotta polish mine and throw them on my cressy one day.

An easy way to paint the black is to put a water soluble grease on the areas you don't want painted, then after the spray scrape it off after followed by a wash (electrical conduit grease or KY Jelly).

It turned out incredibly nice. I need to do this to my 15" stockers.

Got a tip that this Zoop Seal product is what's needed to protect polished wheels.

Gee, even better looking than mines, and I did spend quite some time on them.
My best advise for winter protection: take them out !!!
There is simply no wheels that will comes out un-harmed from a winter with snow and salt.
Once a year or so, I just refresh the finish by hand. 30 minutes and the 4 are re-dones.
zoopseal is certainly great, but I simply wax mine along with the car.

I took a Celica with 14" steel wheels to the junk yard...thinking about going and buying those wheels back to use during the winter months.
I would like to have the zoopseal, but as pricey as it is, I may try using Rain X for now, or as you suggested...just wax them along with the car.

A trick i had with my pure polished alloys on my first supra was come the bad weather, coat the wheel surfaced with car polish but leave it on all over the winter, it gets black and dirty with brake dust but the surface underneath stayed it good shape .
