Call me a guido or WT, I can take it ;)
I grew up in the 80s, and a few non exotic cars really stood out to me. Supra, IROC-Z, Grand National, 6series and Corrado. For some reason, Ive been bitten by the IROC bug again.
The Tuned Port 350 was available from 87-90. The 90 was rated at 245hp and ran mid-low 14s stock.
They never offered a 350 with a manual trans...duh. You could get a 305 with 5sp though, but I think the long term $$$ is in the 350 cars. If I found a deal on a black or white 350 with optional factory 16" wheels, I'd be all over it. If it was a convertible....look out! I wouldn't sell my mk2 for it....but I'd add it for sure. Am I the only IROC loving urban hick on cs? ;)

Nope. I love them too. Looked at them for along time to buy, but the price of them vs. the speed is not worth it to me, since I'm not looking to collect. Convertibles are extremely nice.
Anyways, buy a 350 TPI, buy a 305 w/ a 5 speed, swap out the engine, and you're good to go.

Not the biggest fan of the IROC (I'd rather Phil's Trans Am), but I think VW Corrado's are hawt as hell.

I like it. Hell the one supersubs posted up in his thread is the sickness too. Take out the LT1 and put an LS1 with a T56 and you'd be good to go.

Supra, IROC-Z, Grand National, 6series and Corrado.
Out of the whole list, the IROC is the only one I don't link. 6-series and Corrados are cool, and I'd just about give my left nut for a GN-X in good shape. I guess I've just driven to many 305 (or god forbid 2.8 v6) Camaros to be impressed. Give me a black 3rd gen Firebird any day over that (Turbo Boost optional :) ).

I myself am a fan of the camaros. My uncle was looking for a 70-80 one for me and was going to help me restore it but sadly he passed away last year. After he died I strayed away from muscle and was looking for a Datsun 280z a few came up but sold before i got to look at them. Then a supra popped up on my street and I find my self owning two of them now lol. I thank my uncle for my love of cars, I only wish he was still alive to help with the restoration of my supra.

Pretty much anything with a V-8 will get my attention. But I did grow up in the center of PA, and saw a ton of different cars from the 50's-80's. I still like Chevy's idea of the TBI also.

They look nice but are bigger rattle traps than even the 2nd generation F-bodies - imagine that. Mike - the convertible MK3 F-bodies over rough roads make MK3 Supra with the targa removed feel like a Mercedes S Class in terms of structural rigidity.
A good friend of mine still owns the 1987 Trans Am he purchased new with the TPI 350. It's a hard top and you can see the stress fractures where the roof meets the b-pillars from the motor torquing the unibody to death (he does not beat on the car either). These cars are really not that well screwed together.
If you find the right car - do yourself a favor and drive it on some rougher roads. On the plus side, the cars have huge aftermarket support.
My buddy owns several Camaros including a 1987 Iroc (he also had a similar vintage GTA Trans Am for sale). Let me know and I'll ask him.

Nothing says Pabst Blue Ribbon and Mullet like an IROC-Z :D
That being said, I've always loved the wedge shaped cars so the 80s trans-ams and camaros fall into that category as well. :)

Wow that is f***ing nuts, I just spent the afternoon re-assembling my 89 RS. I'm trying to get it running again to try and sell it. I did not expect to see anything about it on here when I got back. I just need a battery and it should start *fingers crossed* I was going to upgrade the motor from a Buick Roadmaster i picked up 2 years ago. I got laid off a few months ago and no longer have shop privileges.
That is so ironic I just didn't expect to see that here. Anyone interested in the car just PM me. I recommend restoration, or parts car. She may drive but I can't say for how long.

Do they have MINT stock IROCs? I've honestly never seen a MINT stock IROC on the street in my life. I did see a few at a Carlisle meet a while back, all <10k mile time capsule cars. (GM Nationals I think)

MINT GNs are already mega $$$.
I bet you can find a MINT stock lower mile 350 IROC for ~$10k. There are dreamers on eBAY trying to get 25-30 for them....and of course they never sell. BUT, they are creeping up in price. $13k, 15 bids and 20k miles

Cool looking yes. Decent cars NO! Like was said they were total rattle traps. I drove a few of them back then and always wanted to like them because they looked cool but they drove like crap.
Besides in the part of New Jersey that I grew up in because of who you almost always saw driving one IROC wound up meaning a bit different than International Race of Champions. Instead it meant Italian Retard Out Crusing

People said the 4th gen Fbody was a rattle trap. I had one that didn't rattle at all - TTop car too. It was 100% like new with low miles.
I know the 3rd gen is much worse than the 4th gen, and its def prone to rattle. I wonder if a pampered 35k mile car will rattle...
If I ever got one, it would be a low mile, stock car that would remain stock. I have the mk2 for hot rodding ;)

Mullet-Mobile for sure...but I do admit being a child of the 80's myself there's a nostalgic appeal to seeing those mint pictures. Living with one on the other hand just isn't in the cards for me Mike. Just get out of a stock P-Type seat, slide into the Camaro 'bench' and close the door. Open said door, egress, and slide back into the Supra...heaven again. I do like Rapp's idea though...sounds fun as hell. Here's a vid of a local's 3rd Gen F-body...

Well Put. I do like cars of the 80s, Just wasn't ever a Camaro fan. GNX would be sweet, provided I didn't have to pay for it. GM did pretty good with the SCd/TBd 3.8 I think. 80s 350 = choked down. The above mentioned Turbo Coupe (T-bird) would also be fun. Can't lose with 8 plugs on a 2.3 right? Can't remember what years those were. I'll be a douche, Give me another RX-7.
Just for good measure I'll bring this guy back into a thread:

My neighbor across the street has a Forth Gen Camaro. Nice lady, she told me about her selling her MK3 Supra back in the day as well, and shes sees me outside tinkering with my car and says "I wish a man would look at me the way you look at that car." Haha, she's probably late 40s early 50s.
I don't know what else she's had, I'll have to ask her.
As for me, I just need my Supra and an 80s pickup and I'm good haha.

For the kind of lady she is, and for her to not have a man, she's either picky or she found someone and they can't be together and noone else has taken his place. She talks of some soulmate in Maryland, maybe that's why? I don't know, I don't be nosy like that.
She's a car lady though, loves her Camaro and she sees my Supra and remembers her own haha. I do notice that she calls her Camaro "the IROC", while it technically isn't an IROC haha.

TTA = auto only. Def a sweet ride!
I looked it up and they made one or two special 6 spd. versions. I thought I remembered reading about them, so I ran upstairs and looked through my old Road & Track issues after your response. Just didn't know if they were offered for sale.
My friend had a 350 IROC, black with blue/silver stripes. Bought it new and I had the '83 Supra. I got the '85 I still have now and he got rid of the IROC and bought a '88 Supra Turbo. Later he sold the MK3 and bought a MK4 TT. Sold that and got another MK4TT he still has. They called us the SupraBoyz.
Another friend bought a '86 5.0L GT coupe. Sold it and got a '87 5.0L GT convertible. At the same time.
And another friend bought a Grand National.
High School in the mid '80s, we had better cars than the teachers. Some of the guys at work called me SupraStar. The memories.

Back in the 90's I had an '88 Iroc-Z with the 305 TPI/auto. Not the fastest car, but boy was it fun. Should never have gotten rid of it.
I have been looking for another TPI Iroc-Z (be it a 305 or 350), but finding a clean, stock one is getting difficult.
Like most of you all, I love the 80's F-Bodies as well as the infamous Buick Regal Grand National (and the GNX). A few years ago, I picked up what I thought to be the best from both - an '89 Pontiac Turbo Trans Am (has the powertrain from the Grand National). Talk about FAST!!

I was actually going to buy a Iroc-Z here while back. White with orange stripes, 350tpi. But, I missed having all of the money I needed to go pick it up, by a mere day. My friend has a Iroc-z. White with T-tops. When I went to look at the Iroc-Z I wanted with him one weekend, as soon as we got on the interstate, we pulled up by a newer mustang. I looked at the driver, he looked at me, and I put the hammer down. I kept right by the mustangs side. The driver looked over, and gave me a thumbs up. Good times.

I can vouch that the 350's were not all that in terms of HP. I absolutely wasted one in my old 82 HKS Supra many years ago. Granted the HKS was quite fast, but it was ridiculous how bad I beat the guy. I love the way they look, but as other have said they are not built well. I had a few friends that had them back in the 80s/90s, and they were all prone to problems.
