Saw it on craiglists advertised as 1980 sr5 pickup.
it has 206k on it...with just over 2gs of maintnance done in the last 5k miles. (hoses, plugs, wires, tires, clutch, slave and brake cylinders, fuel pump, and more).
There is a little bit of rust...but it is fairly minimal considering what I normally see these trucks having...
Some has been repaired and primed...but I will take a day and fix the rest and maybe get some touchup paint over the primer for now.
Considering it runs and drives great, seems really peppy like it should be, the interior is minty, and it has 5 brand new tires on it, the 600 bucks I took it away for was a steal.
It also came with a good condition canopy.
Today, I changed the oil, filter and did a radiator flush. Cleaned the carb a little and adjusted it some (idle was a little low)
Tomorrow I will pull the wheels and sandblast them for paint, I will probably hit the primer spots with some white paint, and I will check the brakes while the wheels are off. Will also probably be getting an exhaust. The stock exhaust is on its last leg and I happen to have quite a bit of exhaust stuff lying around.
Then from there it is some more slow tinkering.
I think I want some fender mirrors instead of the ones that are on it.
Instead of the canopy I think I want to do a Toneau cover of sort.
Here are some pictures.

Nice find! My first vehicle was a '77 SR5.
That damn thing just wouldn't die. Those 20R engines are bullitt proof!

Great score. I still have my 88 Toy PU. 215K miles. 22Rs are awesome. It has been a farm truck the last 5 or so years. Wash 1X per year so not so pretty, but still strong. Had to dump some $ into it lately but it was my own fault. No or little maintenance.
You will love that truck.

as for paint, I havent decided if I want to keep it white...or if I dont want to go to the local house of kolors paint place and have them mix me up some wild green or something lol

White is what my truck is. cool in the summer, and looks clean even when pretty dirty. Good for function, but not very snazzy, sort of like me.

x2.
seriously though, thats badass, and at $600, its a highway robbery. here, $600 for an old toyota pickup would get me something that has no floor boards, half the bed is rotted, and runs like crap. nice score, and good luck with it.

snapped a few photos today after some more cleaning/ touch up painting and such.
Its not looking to bad for a 600 dollar beater with about 10 bucks in paint and a couple hours of my time.

pressure washed under hood/the body and everything is looking good now.
Got a couple of exhaust leaks to fix around the mani so it doesnt sound so bad. Then time to adapt my old 2.25 supra exhaust to it...lol

Looks way better since you cleaned it up and patched the paint. Just need to find yourself a bumper and some lenses.

Wow that is a nice little 2WD you got there. Good price and shined up real nice!!
I've passed up a few of these over the years and I always regret it. Great little trucks, and so stylish too :naughty:

I actually have some blacked out lenses that I will be putting in soon.
Also will probably try and straighten out and polish the bumper soon. Polishing will be easy, straightening the DR side will be a little difficult.
I will get some new pictures up tommorrow. I have some new paint done.

Damn, looks low enough already!
I'd leave the bumper. Looks like it has character, and isn't rusting, lol.

I will hopefully actually get some new pics up soon.
Now has some new paint and such...I am now working on a black vinyl bed cover cause the bubble top/sun window canopy wasnt my thing.

oh man...forgot about this thread. Time for an update.
Got the rust patches fixed and some paint on it. Bedlined and a vinyl tonneau cover made for it.
Also just came in from lowering the front about 3 inches.
All of these pics are before I lowered it.

Here is a picture of fender clearance after lowering it.

its as low as i can go with these wheel/tire combo cause they stick out too far and I want to be able to drive it still.
lowering the front only took me about 20 min...torsion bar adjustment.
This weekend I will probably be making some blocks for the rear to level the truck back out.

Love the truck. I haven't done anything with my 1981 mine since I did the head gasket and clutch when I first got it. But it has turned past 100,000 original kms now though. So it's almost broken in. I did put a cam in it when I had the head off, I forget the specs on it at the moment. But I'm impressed, it feels faster than my last 22R powered 87 shorbox pick up, and it gets better fuel economy even with the camper on it! Excellent upgrade. Just been cruising and camping in it.
My last truck I lowered too, you have to love the torsion bars. You might want to see about buying a block kit for the rear. When I did mine it only cost me $40 CDN for the two blocks and new u-bolts from Bell Tech. Pretty tough to beat that even if you make your own blocks. Post some pics again when you've got the back lowered too.

yeah definitely love the torsion bars.
i have some steal laying in back so I might be able to just fab some up for free...
Also told that its really easy to modify the blocks for newer generations which are available at schucks/auto zone for like 30...
that will come this weekend. I will post up some more pictures.

Alright well time has come for another update.
NEW PAINT!!!
The paintjob has cost me under 200 bucks in ALL materials. Finish is great and Im super stoked...couldnt be happier.
I still need to replace the front bumper/blinkers in the bumper because of a accident the previous owner got..but its fine for a couple more days.
I also have to get black paint and do the whole undercarrage and get rid of the white overspray to crisp everything up...but that will come in the next couple of days as well.
Since I bought this truck I am into it (INCLUDING COST OF TRUCK) less than 1200 bucks. And I took it on a 2k mile round trip without having to stop once for anything (but gas and even those stops were few).

I still havent decided what I wanna do with the rims yet... The "chrome" paint is starting to dull so idk if I want to spray them again and clear them this time or do a satin black and chrome, or satin black and white combo..idk yet.

Damn they look aluminum....I do like the black idea.

The wheels are a duplicolor "CHROME" paint. They dont look half bad when the paint is fresh...
So I could repaint them and do a nice high gloss clear and they would look good.
But I think a satin black (to match all the trim and stuff on the truck) with a chrome or even paint matched white lip and whole inserts done would look sweet.

Beautiful truck. Sadly, whatever truck I buy won't be bought to become beautiful haha.
That's what the Supra gonna be for. Truck's gonna have to work it's ass off.

I agree, along with a black cover for the bed too. The black would be sweet as well.
Got webers, and a header for it?

I have a black vinyl tonneau cover already.
No no webers or a header yet...but I plan to get a header, hopefully carb, and a cam for it.

I think it needs some 80's graphics. If my truck was white I would definitely have graphics like the one in this commercial.

my truck actually had those graphics originally...the original owner (guy I bought it from) had them taken off when He had it repainted in the early 90's as they were cracked and faded.
Since those pictures I have undercoated all the underside and got rid of white overspray..looks great crisp and clean.
I have also gotten a brand new chrome front bumper to replace the faded damaged one..
Looking better and better.

well done pinstriping...
I will go take some pictures now that it has a new front bumper and a pinstripe.
next week starts interior work.
It will be a combo of the stock tan vinyl and additional new black vinyl in a nice two tone scheme...

Saw one on toyota mini forums and liked the way it looked. Did it to mine and like them aswell. It beefs of the front end a tad to take away from the longbed.
