Standing them up is not a good thing.

My cousin has a mint first gen black M3 with only 80K original kilometers on it. It's for sale if anyone is interested.

Raj: I dunno. They may be empty. (though, I think the local speed shop stores his race gas upright)

Mike: they looked sealed.

Drums expand and contract with changing temperatures. If standing upright they will suck in any standing liquid on top of them. Contaminating the liquid inside without anyone knowing. If they are kept on their side no liquid can stand on them, thus no contamination on expansion and contraction. It's a common mistake that I see in a lot of industrial environments. Even indoors they should be kept on their side.
