So this is my third MK2 project, and by far it is the cleanest one I've had so far. I picked it up off of Craigslist for $650 with a BHG. I'll post pics of the actual car very soon, need to find a clean pic. I did a hasty rebuild of the original 5M; new HG, new bearings. Too bad I was in the middle of moving and rushed the rebuild, it ended up spinning a bearing. So thus I began my 7MGTE build/swap. I have collected about 80% of the parts for the build, but budget issues have forced me to put the engine build on hold. So more details about the 7M build later.

I hate not driving my car, so I decided to pull my spare 5M out of storage to freshen up and drop in for now. So I bring the engine home and start tearing it down to clean and what do I find!?!?! I don't have a 5M, I have a 6M! =)

And not just a 6M, a clean 6m! Some good cross hatch going on:

The engine was dirty as hell (sorry no before pics, but it looked as dirty as the 7M above), so I have it a good scrubbing with Oil Eater/water and a stiff steel brush:

Once it was all clean and degreased, it was time for some white primer paint:

I don't have access to an industrial oven, so I made my own ghetto paint baking setup:

It works really well actually, the block was hot to the touch after about an hour or so.
After I got about 3 good coats of primer done, it was time for the final color coating. The color of choice? I LOVE GOLD!!!

That's as far as I've gotten so far. The plan is just to clean it up and get it in daily driver shape until I have the funds to continue my 7M build. I'll have more pics and info coming soon, till then check out my old school Snap-On tool box handed down to me from my dad during his master tech days:

It needs a good cleaning and some new paint, but it works great for me!
