Well I have an 82 chevy 2wd p\u with a 6.2l detroit deisel slug init. bought it as a toy and to run on veggy oil. Well I was at a buddies place to day and I triped over a pot of gold. Just unloaded the new heart (93 cummins 5.9) 160hp and 400ftlbs torque with a turbo, gonna start the transplant this weekend i hope, pics to folow. Sorry if this sounds stupid but us silly rednecks get off on this shit for real:zzzzz:

i've been working landscaping the past 3 summers. I drive the truck a lot for dump runs and materials. he had a 2006 ram 2500 long box SLT 4x4. he just got a 2009. both had the cummins in them...just an AWESOME truck. the power is just wild. we have the bed FULL at least two days a week.3 skids of bricks are not a problem for this thing, or 2 yards of limestone. You really can't tell you have 3000lbs on the back of the truck when you drive (unless on the highway)...the turbo just gets a little louder.
Really, the issue only comes up when you want to stop!
you're going to love that diesel motor in your truck, I am sure.
I just wish I had an excuse to own a pick up truck like that. Unfortunately, such an expensive item doesn't make much sense unless you make it work for a living.

Badass. I got to drive my buddies 3500 Dually Ram with lotsa mods...and its violently fast. Something that heavy should never be allowed to accelerate that fast!

Ive owned 5 cummins trucks(94,95,01,03,05 models)..the engine your getting is outta of a 1st gen cummins if its a 93..if you get the 94 12 valve then youve really struck gold...94-98 12 valves are the best. it depends on the pumps..the earlier 12 valves had the 160HP pumps and the laters had the 215 pump...either way its a cummins and hands down the best diesel ever built!
Im now in an 05 GMC with the duramax diesel(crossed over to the darkside of diesels)...building it to run 12's...I agree with you..us redneck's really get off on rolling coal (blowing black smoke for you non-knowers).
believe it or not...Im more into diesels than i am into supras. Supras are way cheaper for me to build and play with...Im about to drop 6 grand into a transmission for my dmax and then Im re-tuning it with EFI live...EFI live is probly the best tuning system there is...even better than what most gas cars have available..including AEM, etc etc for MK4 supras. you can tune your ecm with many different tunes up to 5 and switch between them on the fly with no piggy back computer or stand alone BS. I have one tune that makes my truck put down 525 RWHP and 1100 LBFT of torque with a flip of a switch.
for your truck with that engine you can do a few simple really cheap mods to increase the HP/TQ numbers. welcome to the fun world of diesels and enjoy.

ive always wondered how much fun you could have with a lightly built diesel in a 2wd pickup...

Scott you should put in a Cummins 4BT in your little truck.

Russ, I like diesels too. They produce less harmful emissions than gas engines, unfortunately more of them. No tune ups too.
I got to try something really interesting just recently. Drove a brand new BMW 335i, 3.0L twin turbo gas engine and a BMW 335i, 3.0L twin turbo diesel engine for comparison courtesy of BMW on a small track. Same cars with same displacement engines and same forced induction systems.
Gas
300 hp/300 b-ft
Diesel
265 hp/425 lb-ft
Drove both the cars hard. Interesting results. Liked the gas powered car far more. It just felt stronger and quicker. The diesel felt like it ran out of steam.
There is always the debate, is torque more important than horsepower or vice versa? I think you need a balance, both numbers close to each other like the gas engine. I'm sure adding a ton of weight to both cars would have made the a difference the other way.

The 4bt would be tits in a small truck. ABQ it is the smaller 165 pump but i have a newer pump and a 24v head. "The process has just begun but its gonna be a fun lil truck when alls said and done

For right now i'm just gonna get it in, put a new turbo on it, turn the pump up a lil and make it work, untill i 4link and 9in the rear i dont wanna put to much power down. and as for putting a lil diesel in a supra, i assure you i'm workin on it. not sure what to use just yet but it may happen.

Almost same stats as my monte carlo @ 197hp 299tq lol Jack crap for acceleration, but won't stop till it runs out of revs. Both smell just as bad lol carlos has blue smoke and burns eyes, diesels exhaust kills everythingt but the o-zone, neither rev for crap haha do a twin turbo diesel from some mercedes in the supra. that way it'll at least move fast!
