View Full Version : Power Problem..... THERES NONE!!

this morning i took my 84 out for a spin, illeagally since i have no insurence and no inspection, i figured i could get away with it if i went out early enough....but neways, i went out drove it for a lil bit and there was no power..i don't no if this is jus what the 84 has or weather i might b running on only a couple cylinders...the engine was rocking a little but i thought it was cause it hasn't been ran in awhile...the power loss was to the point where when i would floor it, i wasn't goin newhere, i think i had bout a 50 yrd span n i could barley hit 20....is this normal and if not what do u think the prob could be, any help would b great....thanks,

Not normal...
Problem could be anything.

Start by pulling the plugs and doing a compression test. If you know how to "read" the plugs it might also give you a clue. Check the condition of the dist cap and rotor. A good place to start, may be other problems......

ok thanks...my father also said that it might be that the fuel filter is cloged and/or the injectors are clogged, could this b it and where is the fuel filter.....thanks

the fuel filter is on the intake side of the motor under neath the intake...its a pain in the ass to change....good luck..search for info on changing the fuel filter.

How old is the gas in the gas tank?

the gas is new this morning....but i have fixed it, i found that the person i bought the car from didn't completely put 3 of the sparkplug wires in....so i guess it was only runnin on 3 cylinders....thanks for all the help, jus can't believe i didn't think to check the wires...thanks,
