I've been working on my aunt's 96 Celica GT convertible at school for a while, and I've hit a snag. I replaced the head gasket because it was blasting oil out of the back of the engine. disconnected everything, head up, cleaned everything, gasket in, head down. Easy enough. But once I got everything back together (new wires, cap/rotor, plugs, timing belt, tensioner spring), now it's running really rough and smelling kinda weird. seems like a timing problem, but the distributor's not adjustable, and I made sure the valve timing was perfect (double, triple, quadruple checked lol). Has anyone run into a problem like this before? Let me know if there's anything I should check. maybe I missed something.

little update... I didn't realize I had left the vacuum line to the MAP sensor disconnected. X_X I had disconnected it to raise the head and intake, and I didn't realize that I hadn't put it back. It's running smoothly now, but still smelling kinda funky and smoking from the top of the exhaust pipe. Mostly spilled fluids, I believe, so not a big deal.
