View Full Version : tight new bearings, motor doesn't turn

What to do? building my 5mge and after i torquech the rods bearings down the motor is to tight to turn over. Any suggestions/tips?

torque in the correct sequence?

plenty of assembly lube?

is the whole head and everything on or just the block assembled?

What did/does the plasti-gauge say?

Plastigauge? A problem I found is the assumption is that you need oversized bearings - verify that you have the correct size. When I did plastigauge for the first time and was confused - it was squashed way outside the spec. Turns out I had 10-over bearings installed on a stock crank.

I had the same problem. I ordered standard size and they sent me .05 over I didn't bother to read the label prior to installl but since it was their mistake they took them back and replaced them with std. Check your clearances.

Im not enough familiar with the 5M but several other motors Ive done... if you put the caps on backwards it will bind. Make sure you have the front of the cap to the front of the rod. Asside from that issue, plastigauge.
