Needs valve work??? Several possibilities:

- Burnt valve(s) - check with a compression tester. Should have 150-190 psi on each cylinder. Most expensive to fix.
- Sticky lifter (hydraulic lash adapter) - often running with Marvel Mystery Oil will fix
- Normal valve train noise (clicking) - they all do this
- Broken spring or bad lifter or rocker arm (unlikely)
- Worn out valve stem seals - smoke at startup

Same engine as MK II Supra, but attachments can be different (A/C, radiator, ....)

5-speed? Manual Cressies are rare (they do exist). That could be fun. Wagon or sedan? NADA gives the value in Seattle as (low, avg, high):
TOTAL PRICE $1,550 $2,275 $3,050

As it is broken I'd go to the low end.

I looked up a 84 Supra too:
TOTAL PRICE $2,200 $3,050 $3,975

I say get it if you want it...
Diagnose the issue...then buy my 85 longblong if needed.
being a 5 speed it is kinda rare...and definitely could be fun.

The prices I posted are what dealers have gotten; private sales are less.

I daily drove an 86 MX73 for a few years...great car! Nothing like 5MGE reliability!
