This is awesome news. I LOVE that the iconic 5.0 is back...and as it did in the 80s its probably going to crush the GM offerings. I'm having a hard time with the rear of the new body though...I still prefer the 05-09 exterior styling.

To think, the 1985 5.0 was rated at 210hp

I want to see it ship with a 5.0 badge on the fender ;)

Ford updated the Mustang for the 2010 model year, but largely ignored the car’s engine bay. However, that will likely change for the 2011 model year, with details of the Mustang’s new powertrains hitting the Web on Wednesday.

As previously reported on these pages, the base Mustang will be powered by Ford’s 3.7L V6 for the 2011 model year. Although that engine produces 273 horsepower in Lincoln applications, power will be ramped up to 315 horsepower for the Mustang, according to The Mustang Source. That represents a significant increase of 105 horsepower over the current V6-powered Mustang and an 11 horsepower advantage of the Chevrolet Camaro V6.

A 400 horsepower 5.0L V8 motor will also be joining the Mustang lineup for 2011. Dubbed ‘Coyote’, the new mill will be used in the Mustang GT model and will be available with a six-speed manual transmission – something the Camaro has offered since 1993.

Combined with Ford’s latest track pack, the 2011 Mustang GT reportedly lapped Michigan’s GingerMan Raceway dead-even with the current BMW M3 — despite a 200 pound weight disadvantage.

Because Ford’s 365 horsepower EcoBoost motor would leave little to differentiate the V6 Mustang from the 400 horsepower V8 model, there are no current plans to use the turbocharged engine in the Mustang in the immediate future. However, the Mustang GT will likely see a power boost in the coming years, possibly opening the door for a turbocharged Mustang.

Other changes to the Mustang line for 2011 include an aluminum block for the Shelby GT500 model. A Boss model is on tap for 2012.

Call me silly, but I am in LOVE with the rear turn signals on the 2010's...

Billy is Silly. But I like the 2010 rear end better also.

The Mustang has more than held its own against the Camaro and Challenger from what I read (slower but better handling). The trak pack is the shizzle.

The turn signals are very cool. I dont like the angle the tails sit at.

So now there'll be more 5.0's flooding the domestic market, and more for me to crush at the track. Win-win situation all around.

I'd still opt for the CTS-V; I just can't do the Ford thing.

I used to hate ford but with the recent showing of quality and power in the...oh...past 5 or so years....I think I have come to the point where I could drive one....

I've def. tinkered with the idea of owning an old 5.0.....like and 88.....I also like the old square headlight foxbodies from the early eighties. I wouldn't mind having a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe or an 86 Mustang SVO either....just to toy with.....

I like the new design, and the new rear IMO looks good. The sequential turn signals are a bit hypnotic, but I only see them for a second when I am powering past them big time in my SRT8 :) Bring on the 5.0!

I definitely like the Foxbody look. All three of the cars now (Challenger, Camaro, Mustang) are freaking gigantic. Not saying anything's wrong with that, I'm just not into that when it comes to my car. I do plan on buying a full size truck though. Unless I find a Toyota for cheap (doubt it).

Ya my brother had 2 78 stangs I really liked them one had T-tops, if you hiked up the rear and put A taller & fatter tire on it mad A whole lot A differance. I had A 79 mustang that was A 4 poper that I droped A V6 & 4 speed out of A 78 the car did pretty well I could get it to 120 mph and still had peddle left, I loved that car. my old boss has A 07 GT-CS its A very nice car but I do like the new redesine

I like the new look, but the rear end could have been a little less "round" around the lights.
ford has definately been getting better the last few years. even their trucks are nice! although if you ever work on a ford trucks engine you'll wish you would have bought a chev.:32:

Ford sure did F-up on the re-skin. It's not distinctive anymore. The new body appears to have forfeited retro-cool infavor of corporate bean counter practicality. I'll take a '05 any day.
