i did a swap today (5mge to a 6m) and when i was plugging in the injector harness, as i went to plug in the TPS plug the plug had 4 prongs but the 6m TPS had only 3. which i just figured it was because of the engine difference but then it dawned on me that the car that i pulled the 6m out of was an '84 that had a 5mge that i pulled out of it. I don't understand why the '84 had a 3 prong plug but then one that got the transplant today had a 4 prong plug.

what (if any) is the difference between the 2 TPS models?

There are a ton of differences between the 3 prong (square) and 4 prong (round) TPS's. The only way you can swap them over is by swapping the whole throttle body.

The square TPS is more like a on/off/on switch and the round TPS is more like a rheostat.

i ended up switching out the whole TB, just wanted to make sure that it wasn't going to effect the way the car ran. Thanx guys.

iirc, 85 5mg tps (round) requires 85 ecu and 84 tps (square) requires 84 ecu
