Bad Retractor Motor

I have a bad driver side retractor motor. I wondered what actually blows when they go? I am asking this because I have a spare passenger motor, and would like to know if I could swap the electronics for example.

So I took them apart, looks like it could work. Ill have to test the two little resistors to see if they are bad. Any one else do this before?
