alright yall, i know the whole subject of why the speedometer needle bounces has been covered numerous times, so you don't have to tell me that it may be a bad cable or bad gear in the tranny.

my problem is i have now gone through my 3rd speedo cable (looking for a 4th). i am kinda confused on this matter. everytime i install a new cable my speedometer will work great for a while. but it seems that after a few months when i am screwing around in the car if i hit anything between 105mph and 110mph my speedometer starts bouncing once again and leads to total failure. this is starting to get quite aggrivating.:32:

i am using a '85 guage cluster, w58, and a 4.30 diff.. Can anyone tell me if something could be geared wrong? or why i am going thru so many cables?

Are you buying new cables? Or intalling ones from other cars that you find?

is the speedo itself stuffed? Maybe rip the dash out and hook up an old cable to test it with a power drill or die grinder if drill's not enough rpm ! IF it plays up it's not the gearbox end that's the trouble.:good: i assume you've checked the gearbox section or you could do same thing with that, spin it up ,it might be seizing at high rpm's or sticky.:twodrunkg

83 no they haven't been brand new. and i guess i will have to try what you are saying gte. it has been on the same tranny but in 3 different cars. so i suppose it would have to be the tranny gears hunh?

i didn't realize the gear box was used in three set up's and dash was changed.:duh: rip the little sucker off and look in side if it comes apart .if not spin it up as i mentioned .Or get one off a spare or blown box. just chage the wormwheel if there's a difference.

i ripped all the little bit's off my blown box like that ,the shift dampers and reverse light bit before i threw it out. lucky i did cause a damper stick's and i've nearly gone into 1st instead of 3rd a few times:suicide::eek:
