Can anyone help describe what exactly a 6 bolt main is? I know the UZFE's are after lotsa reading in Lextreme.com, but don't realy know what they're talking about  . Is the M series 4 bolt mains? And anyone know what the 1&2JZ's are?

6 bolt main means each main cap has 6 bolts  the 5,6, and 7m are 2 bolt mains, but we have 7 main caps. you sure its a 6 bolt main? that sounds insane.

They use 6 bolts because of the AL block to help with flex. Al has about a third of the flexure modulus as does steel/iron. I know the Solara 1MZFE block has 6 bolt main with a girdle (4 straight in and 2 cross bolted). I think LS1 blocks use 8.

as technology increases and more power is shoved into lighter engine blocks the more main bolts a lot of manufactuers use.

I think LS1 blocks use 8.

the LS1 engine has 6 bolt mains

The LS1 engine has 4 bolt mains. They built one up on horsepower t.v. Unless they changed it over the years. This one was from a trans am/camaro.

1JZ/2JZ are 2-bolt mains, but this is sufficient because they have a rigid cast-iron block... and no-one would accuse the 2JZ of having a weak bottom end!
