so the other day i noticed my 83 was running a lil rough, not knowing what it was i started to look around timing fine, no vacuum leaks, but i noticed wen i hit the throttle while under the hood i could open it all the way up and the rmps would slowly rise, i took it for a short drive and it had no power it didn't want to climb up my hill to get to the main road so i took it back home and looked around some more, i pulled the air filter off the car and fired it up and it ran great throttle response was amazing and it had TONS of power so i drove it up the street with the filter off but as soon as i got to the main road it started running like crap again. i think it could be a fuel problem im going to replace the fuel filter tomorrow so well see if that works.

any advice from anyone would be greatly appreciated

it can be many things, do a tune up to the car, replace the basic stuff, filters, plugs, wires, cap and rotor. and then tell us how it runs.

I would check the connection to your AFM, or the AFM itself. The fact you said it ran much better when you took the air filter out gives a hint. Running the car without a air filter wont help performance like that, but while taking it out. jiggling the AFM might of helped. A cheap fix could be a can or parts cleaner or MAF cleaner from kragens or whatever. Just be careful when handling the AFM.

Aside from that, I would start with the basics, check your plugs when you take them out, what color are they? what do they smell like? are they covered in gunk? Check all of those things then move onto the ol` cap, rotor, wires etc.

Good luck and let me know if that helps.

Check for leaks in the intake piping too.

well i just replaced the fuel fliter and the plugs and no change in how it runs still idles rough and i have to put it half way to the floor to get the rpms to rise, and it rises slowly

well i put it on the timing gun and it was at -1 under tdc so i jumped it up to 10 and it runs like a champ runs really good
