i just changed my first motor, after removing the slave cylinder release I go to put it back on and it won't go, is there a way to compress the line that goes to it? what am I doing wrong? Also when I removed the engine and tranny all the oil drained out of the back of the tranny, what kind of lubricant does it take and how do I fill it?

Congratulations on your first motor install. I am little confused on the slave cylinder "compress line" question but I'll give it a shot anyway. Please clarify if I go a stray. If you want to compress the rod the connects to the clutch fork then you may need to release some pressure from it by opening up the bleeder screw on the slave cylnder. That should allow you to mount it and then tighten up the bleeder. You may need to bleed the air out afterwards but that easy. To be honest, I've never had an issue with remounting the slave with full pressure so make sure that the clutch fork in installed properly.
As for lube, using fill hole on side on tranny, with car in a level position, fill with 80w-90 GL4 or GL5 gear oil until it runs back out the hole.

Edited out because I was daft, and incorrect.
To FILL the transmission... That is another battle. You can do one of two things.
1) The Proper Way
Jack the car up Front AND Back (Level) ON STANDS, or sturdily on blocks.
Remove fill/check plug
Pour out the excess Tranny fluid into another container, so you only have the exact amount called for, plus a small amount (to offset the fluid in the dry pump/hose)
Pump fluid into transmission via a 1 gallon pump, and a length of hose attached (so you can put the hose in the fill/check plug).
2) The Easy Way
DRAIN the entire transmission, FULLY & Completely
Reinstall Drain Plug
Remove shifter
Get a Wal-Mart pitcher/jug
Fill pitcher with exact amount needed for transmission.
Fill transmission with fluid
Reinstall Shifter
Call it done.
I only recommend the Easy way if your fill/check plug has been permanently REAMED into place by the transmission shop *cough cough*.
On a 7M-G(T)E it's a 24mm Plug, and should be used with a SIX-POINT SOCKET ONLY. If you attempt a 12-pt socket, or Crescent wrench/Channel-Lock pliers/Vise-Grips you are ASKING to screw yourself over and HAVE to take it to a shop to have it professionally removed. I got screwed by my transmission shop, as mine was either installed with a 3ft Plus Breaker bar and 6-pt socket, or an impact and 6-pt socket. I tried a ratchet, w/ cheater bar and 6-pt socket and only succeeded in rounding off the very shallow head of the plug.

anyways thanks memories, your suggestion with the bleeder screw worked, I was thinking thats how you did it, but wanted to make sure as this is my first motor change....and about 30 minutes ago I fired the motor up for the first time since the swap, fired right away, but I still need to get the timing on the dizzy adjusted (not sure how to get it exact), but wow am I impressed with myself!!!!
I learned alot of things along the way, and took apart things that I had previously just put together about a dozen times prior.... but the biggest thing I learned..... take the tranny out with the engine!!!! I could not get the engine and tranny to mate no matter what I did, even with 3 friends!! I finally decided to pull the tranny also, and wow, even outside the car it was hard to mate, i ended up starting the bolts and star pattering them pretty much a hair above finger tight, then WHAM! I finally heard the tranny seat! now aside of the timing, I guess I am going to need a new exhaust gasket aswell because it is leaking alot, not sure how, i tightened, and kept tightening in a pattern, it took like 6 rounds to fully tighten up, it wore me out!!!
And kmfdmk, thank you for your input, I followed your car build thread and found it very interesting, and now thanks to you i know how to fill it. I could not get it filled properly with only the nipple end that comes on the oil container, she does move fine now, and I got alot in, but its not level with the fill plug, so I guess maybe I will use a turkey baster to fill the rest of the way!

Please DOUBLE CHECK what I said about it being level with the fill/check plug I COULD BE WRONG. I haven't been sleeping well/lack of sleep from stress about my court / speeding violations. Fill to the exact amount. Put in only the exact called for amount. My misguidance could result in you blowing the output shaft seal, and at best make it leak transmission fluid from wherever it can. I am deeply sorry to have led you astray.
FYI
W58 (Stock Celica Supra transmission)
2.4 Liters / 2.5 US Quarts.
