How do I connect my TPS to my alternator?
^ a joke.

My project: '73 240z, powered by a 7mgte.

Wiring harness is a Summit knockoff of the Painless harness

My engine\fuel management will be handled by a VEMS unit.

I need the following connections between my TPS and VEMS:

+5v out from VEMS
"wiper out" (0-5v) from VEMS
Ground to VEMS

My TPS has four pins, one of which I've discovered is IDL, which I won't be using. Problem is, I don't know which is IDL. I also don't know which pin is Ground, which is the bigger problem.

I need the following information about the Alternator:

My painless harness has two wires, "Alt Power" and "Alt Exciter". This alternator, however, as most of you know, is not a one wire alternator.

I've got my big terminal, which I'll be running to the bat, but then I have hole with three male spades sticking out at me in this configuration:

Just sort of gazing at me unammusedly. I'm wondering if anyone can give me a pinout of the alternator and TPS, or just maybe guide me in the right direction?

Thanks in advance, I've really enjoyed browsing your forum, you folks seem to know your stuff.

This has a wiring section. http://www.cygnusx1.net/Supra/Library/TSRM/MK3/ Dont know year of your 7MGTE, this is a manual for a 90 car, or "grey plug" harness. TPS and Alt pinouts should be same on any 7MGTE.

Theres a recent writeup by Supraguy31 on adapting a Q45tb that has a rough pinout of TPS-http://forums.celicasupra.com/showthread.php?t=52168&highlight=Q45+TPS Since you are using a Painless, have you thought of using a GM alt? Quick way to upgrade amp, just a pulley swap for you....

I was thinking of just doing a GM 1 wire... my computer and stereo are running off a 1500 watt power inverter, having some extra juice would be a good decision. I'll start looking around for which one would be easiest to swap.

Donn, thanks a ton, I was looking through the wiring diagrams, wouldn't have thought to look at the EFI portion :\

The Q45 writeup is very interesting to me also, I'd already found it, and it got me close to nowhere, since I can't rely on the pinout being rightside up. LAST thing I wanna do is fry something.

Get this though, that q45 TB is the same as the 240sx TB, which is a common upgrade for the L28et when people install megasquirt, which I did four or five years back. SO, knowing that, I made a spreadsheet going from 7mgte tb to q45 tb to megasquirt's pinout, but again, I got caught up on not knowing which of the four actual pins matched up to the pinout. I should be able to finish it all up having this stuff, thanks a lot guys.
