What's that diaphragm looking thing on top of the banjo bolt that holds the fuel line to the fuel rail? The reason I ask is because I pulled the plastic cover off of it today and found the screw with an o-ring on it just sitting in there. I put the screw back in and tightened it down but now I'm wondering if it's supposed to be loose and provide some kind of adjustment?

Fuel Damper.
If the screw backed out, get another one.

A new damper or screw? The screw was trapped under the plastic cover so I still have it.

I.E. it will drop fuel down on your starter, and catch fire....ask me how I know.
Fyi...you can also put said fire out with a 16 oz frappacino.....:zzzzz:

Rock Auto is your friend if you can't find a used in a yard or on this forum. I've purchased the regulator, but not the dampener. Still a good product at decent price, relatively speaking.

funny thing is i was just going to put my new walbro in today and i just noticed that! but the walbro doesnt have the fitting for that it has a fitting like the inlet to the stock fuel pump on my 82. would it be alright to just cut the line and put a hose clamp on it?

Just get rid of it and replace it with a banjo bolt, it has been discussed before, and I even did a write-up.

It will probably not last long since there is quite a bit of pressure in the line.

Good to know. I only noticed it was messed up because I was checking to see if I could throw in a double banjo bolt instead to have an easy spot for hooking up a pressure gauge. Anybody know the size and thread pitch off hand?
-Side note is that I just tightened the screw back down and drove around this afternoon with no problems.

IIRC, it is an 14X1.25, but don't quote me on that.

I couldn't resist. Didn't you recently have a write up on this? and where to get banjo bolts that will work here?

what symptoms would you experience if the fuel regulator was starting to fail or is it
a go-no go type thing? mine is original to car.....380,000 miles.

Turns out it's 14X1.5 and it's a lot harder to find a double banjo in that size than I thought. I was too lazy today to go to the junk yard so I ended up paying $20 for a new bolt because all my local guys had was a fancy pants aluminum one. Plan B is now to get a double banjo that fits the cold start injector line. Probably get a chance to pull that and check the size in the next few days.
