What does this have to do with setting the ignition timing? I know, look at the TSRM, but it really didn't make sense to me. Call me an idiot I guess.

The plug? Fusible link connector, supplies headlight power, nothing to do with timing. The check connector you need to short to time engine is by ignitor.

Where is the ignitor? What does shorting it out do?? Do I really have to do that when I set the timing with a timing light?

Towards driver from fusebox. 83-86 have an unconnected yellow plug, it has its own bracket and cap from factory. Shorting connector defeats advance. None of this applies if you have an 82, the 82 has vacumn advance. You would plug vacumn hose to defeat advance before timing in that case.

O.k. thanks man. It's really cool when I don't get beat up for being so inexperienced on here.

As long as it is metal.

How does the advance work if not with vacumme? Just curious.

It's done electronically by the computer.
