Sooooo, I've been holding out, but Tommy convinced me that it was time to upgrade to VBulletin 4. Its the right thing to do, as its the most secure option AND its a better platform for growth. Support for the old version is dwindling, and will eventually go away. I will also be able to create a great FAQ reference section, and have it fully integrated with the forum. It def looks different, but it will grow on you....and you will shortly realize it is in fact BETTER than 3.8x. HUGE thanks to Tommy for doing this.....it takes a ton of time to do it right....and hes one of the few who doesn't 1/2 ass ANYTHING. Oh, it also works much better on mobile devices.....night and day difference really.

As 98% of my interwebbing is done on a mobile device I have to say the opposite, at least from my POS phone this is much harder to navigate then the previous version. The reason's behind the upgrade is obviously for all the right reason's tho. I'll just have to get used to Navigation on here, but had I come to this site with this set up for the first time with my QA1 I'd probably have walked away. I'm sure its better on a Desktop and other phones but for me (as long as I am on a QA1) it's a bad change.

(Sorry for double post; 512 Character limit wont let me Edit last Post) I will say tho, that I can actually do a "Quick Reply" now instead of typing it all out and having to run it through the Advanced Editor to get the site to recognize I've typed anything; I will easily trade better technical thing's like that for a little bit harder navigation, cramped post appearance, and ad's running over text. So all in all B+.

I didn't like it either at first, when I upgraded my sites. It will grow on you once you get used to the new layout. The Admin Area and styles setup was the hardest for me to accept.
At one point I felt vBulletin took a step backwards, but after some time, I realized how much more control I have over every detail without tons of hard coded customization. (Which is a PITA when it comes time for software updates and patches)
Some FYI...The UserCP has now become the Settings link at the top right of each page. To find your threads and posts, you simply click on the My Profile link also at the top right of each page, and you will see the links on the left side.

Uhh, takes a bit of getting used to but that can be accomplished. Still trying to figure out how it is an UPGRADE to go from a 200 PM limit to a 100 PM limit. That seems like a downgrade to me. I'm out of the PM game until I can ditch about 40 messages. Thanks for the warning!:sadbanana:

Instead of bitching with a mad face, you could have sent me a PM asking me what happened. I would have then changed the PM box for the Registered User group to 200, where it was.
The upgrade had nothing to do with your personal PM space.

Can't get the new search to work. It gives me threads with every word I put in. For example "oil leak front" returns any thread using the words oil or leak or front...so pretty much half the threads on the forum.

This is a bug that the next update should resolve. For now, you could go to Advance Search -> Search Single Content Type. Next to where you put your keywords, there is a drop down box, choose Thread Titles Only. You could also choose which forums you wanted to search in to narrow it down even more. That is the only help I can provide ATM.

Looks good. I thought I had the wrong site as well LOL.
No complaints here, just a few observations.
(Viewed about 50-50, Motorola Droid Android OS, Opera Browser, XP Pro).
Looks good on Droid (using it to type this reply). Haven't viewed with Opera yet. I PRAY that it doesn't look /render poorly due to use/abuse of IE non-W3C compliant code. (Pet peeve)
Observations.
Crisp look on Droid. However more cluttered display. Before the Thread Title, and Forum Section, OP and LP username were bolder, as well as the Location. Made For much easier skimming/browsing on a mobile device as those are some of the things referenced when visually scanning the forum. Any way we can re-implement that? (CSS? *crosses fingers*)
Also is/will there be an "Old Version" theme?
Thank you Mike. & Tommy, change is inevitable, and progress is good. I appreciate you hard work to support our community. Glad to see the Premium $ going to excellent use!
Mark - I didn't see ads in replies/signatures even prior to logging in.

Well this is different.
Two things. One the little arrow buttons next to the last poster name next to thread lists wasn't working, untill I clicked on the one for this thread. Maybe its fixed now?
But more importantly, can we get do away with the removal of editing privilages on old posts? I understand you guys had 2 crazies nuke their existance on this forum, but it really wasn't a lose to the community. There are lots of ongoing threads or old important ones that require regular updating and this makes that a PITA (have to get a mod to do it). For instance I can no longer maintain my guest list in my Afterparty thread in the first post. Also the old Top HP\Drag numbers threads and such, now only mods can update the 1st posts.

Any permission changes that occurred was not planned as part of the upgrade. The upgrade may have defaulted some permissions and settings to their most restricted because of the new features that they effect. Malloy will have to look over the usergroup settings and adjust accordingly. I'm sure that kind of stuff will be back to normal soon.

Ok, played some more, the more I use it the more I like it. Works good in Chrome, IE, Firefox, Ipod touch and Android 2.1 Hero.
The only 'issue' I can find with the half hour of playing is that the first/previous, next/last buttons in the thread and forum pages on the stock android browser are 1 pixel lower. *grins* Pretty small, but I had to keep looking until I found something.

So we still can't edit old posts (this is really a big deal, its gonna hurt us much more then it helps) and there is one bug still. Or at least there was a week ago, I assume its still there. When you get a PM and visit the site, it asks you if you want to view the message. If you say yes, and then on the next pop up say "Cancel" to force it to open the message in the same window\tab it goes to a "page not found" error page. This is with windows Explorer, latest edition.

I don't like how slowly the pages load now. Every time I click on a thread, or the next page, it loads most of the page the full width of the screen, then the text disappears and turns dark gray, then the post box narrows and the vendor sidebar loads, then the text RE-LOADS in the narrower post box, then the pictures load. It's freaking FRUSTRATING!!! It takes me TWICE as long to go thru the forum now, and I don't have time for it! Bring the old forum back!

Yea, 2 max images in sig. I think that's reasonable.
I view the site at home, from my iPhone and from various hotels/buildings. It does load a tad slower than the last build, and I blame the right column. For now, that's the best we have. I hope to find a better column. I have absolutely no problems viewing/reading the site for any location.

Oops, I was wrong about the image limit on posts. I hadn't tried it, but since this new software is just like the minivan forum I'm on, I assumed it was the same. So, of course, I made an ass of myself. :D
I agree with the 2 image max on sigs; I just don't classify a smiley (emoticon) as an image. That's my only gripe I guess. I'm getting used to the new layout, and it is starting to load faster. You're totally right about the sidebar slowing it down. I used Adblock Plus to omit the vendor links, and that helped speed things along. I can always find the vendors in the actual forum if need be. I'm chillin' out now. Thanks for putting in the work to update the site, and to prove me wrong!
