drifting I believe is a "controlled slide" or something to that effect, I don't see what's wrong with it besides all the "wannabe drifters" that act like fools and make the sport look bad. I haven't seen much about it, but from the little I've seen it looks cool. I'd wreck my car easily, put it into a wall, hehe
also the "wannabe drifters" that do it on public roads are an extreme hazard to everyone

What is it?
Controlling your car sideways through turns. Beginner techniques include ebrake, powering out of a turn, and using a "clutch kick" to upset the rear traction. More advanced techniques include using a "rough" trail braking technique, and a "feint" or "scandanavian flick" (kind of slaloming before the turn to get the rear to swing out like a pendulem.
what's wrong with it?
A lot of people in the States are starting to drift all at once. This means beginners teaching beginners, and there are relatively few safe places to practice (and it takes lots of practice). More recently a "fast-and-furious" type increase in unskilled drifters practicing in unsafe areas have caused problems and given the sport a bad name. From a competition standpoint, most people can't understand having a motorsport that doesnt use a clock to find a winner. Judging drifting is mostly subjective (much like Freestyle compared to motorcross).

Do a search on drifting here and maybe you might come across a post where a 'would-be-drifter' thought it was cool to drift around a corner, scare the crap out of a soccer mom and put her in a ditch....not cool...in my opinion...idiots like him are giving the rest a bad name.
And Alex, not to be picky...but unless you're joking, admiting that you drive like an ass on the street is not going to help the already tarnished image of the 'drifter'. If you are joking...then i do apolgize

It's amazing how easy it is to drift an AE86. I can understand why they're so popular for that stuff.
You just fricking crank the wheel and the back end comes around. Totally predictable and controllable. Simply amazing.

Almost got taken out by a "drifter" on a street where "no-one was hanging out" a couple of days ago while I was coming home late. Do it on the track or do it into a ditch.
Once again we question why roads like GMR get shut down and I get followed by cops late at night for doing nothing... case and point...

wrong place at the wrong time, OK so I guess you "drifters" think you can take over peoples neighborhoods at any time and put everyones lives in danger.
You will find out the hard way some day, I hope you don't kill an innocent child with your ignorance and immaturity.
Take it to a track, or get a new hobby

You know what would be funny, if a drifter was drifting on a city street and got t-boned by a semi-truck...now that would be funny.
Before this shit gets all out of control :lockit:

Drifting can be fun, it's just gotten a bad name from a bunch of idiots who do it in public streets.
Of course i dont really understand that either. Especially considering that it's no less dangerous than street racing on or drag racing on public roads, and most of the people who say drifting is stupid because people do it on public roads, they dont seem to have the same reservations about racing some stranger in a mustang or something that pulled up next to them at a stop light. Doing that is just as dangerous as drifting in the street, if not more so because most people do it in traffic, while most drifters will atleast try to go some place out of the way.
I mean even on this board, alot of people think drifting is dangerous and stupid, but all of them seem to have no problem posting in the "kill stories" forum how they dragged against another car in the middle of the day, on a public road. IT'S ALL DANGEROUS AND STUPID.
Either way, things like this only belong on a track, or at the very least an empty parking lot. Never on a public road, even one that seems empty.
I dont really drift but ill probably learn how to for fun with my friends (im 20 gotta have fun some how), but I dont like how people alienate people who drift.
I mean i agree that their are alot of idiots and stupid kids trying to drift, (and trd_83_supradrifter's addtude in this tread isnt exacty adding any credit to drifting), but there are just as many idiot and "stupid kids" that try to drag race in public strees, and people seem to have less of a problem with them. Even though there are more innocent people being hurt by these street racers than there have been by drifters.
Anyways, yes drifting is pretty cool, and seems like it can be alot of fun, but keep safe, and off public roads.

Well, now I don't know what to think. If I were to go 'drifting' at 3am I'd get arrested for sure. That's kind of the time bars close, and if you knew some of the idiots leaving a bar at 3 in the am, I for one would not want to be on the road in general at 3am, much less whipping around like an idiot with drunk idiots driving around maybe not having lights on or something. You just never know, but hey, maybe I'm just paranoid.

And Mantis does raise a point. Drag racing is also dangerous if on a street or in traffic. I'm not saying I don't do the occasional drag, but out here there are a lot of straight roads with no side roads, so there's no chance of someone pulling out in front of you or whatever. I do think that drifting is more dangerous, because when you have traction with only 2 tires, it can get out of hand in a hurry. I can see the point that both are dangerous and should not be done, and sympathize with that. When I do race someone it's always off a light, and public road or not, I won't race if there's traffic ahead, and even if I do, I'll let off way way early, just so I don't come barreling up to a pack of cars. I suppose it is a topic that is open do debate as far as what people deem safe, stupid, etc. but the fact still remains that no matter what you do, there's probably someone doing something stupider somewhere nearby and you just gotta hope that your paths don't cross. You know?

TRD_83_SupraDrifter I dont swear on this board and I will try not to here... but it will be hard.
You are an idiot and you are not funny. I have personally been up to my elbows in blood of some poor guy who was hit by an idiot like you. I can only hope you kill yourself before you kill someone else. I suppose noone else in on the road at 2:00am anywhere in the world? Get a clue, grow up and please stop doing it in a mkii, you are making us all look like idiots.
Drift in a big parking lot or something. Somewhere abandoned, where there is no risk to anyone. If you kill yourself its okay, just don't kill anyone else. Its a lot of fun to drift I understand, but please keep it off the streets, do it in parking lots or somewhere safer.

Plus if I do it in a MK2 or not is none of your business I am not going to go get a S-13 or a AE86 or any other car for that matter!!! I have a MK2 And I'm the only one Drifting one in this area!!! or at any Club 4AG event! Plus just to let you know since the ricers and the old school muscle car "DRAGGER'S" have been making a scene at Ontario cops are all over the place now!!!!! this thread is going no where...lol...
Not to try to justify anything but half of the things in kill stories are not really "street racing" per say. They're not organized street races, they are usually about 10 second drags from lights to the speed limit and sometimes over the speed limit. Yes dangerous, but if you are continually drifting down a road anyone could pop out and get hurt..Alex, you're not making your case any better by anything you've said.

Its a Chrysler with a lot of Eclass. C&D got it to run a 13.9@102... stock. ;)
4matic is coming in the fall. I hope it dosent fall apart like Chryslers of the past. I really think this will be THE ONE, but time will tell. Chrysler needs to prove to us that they can make a solid/reliable and badass car.

I'm with malloy on this one, i like this car. It does look bentlyish and very mean, and it has a v-8....as long as its more mercedes than chrysler then i think they will be ok....lol. But if I had a bunch of money to waste i would buy one....*will probably never buy or lease a new car*

The front totally looks like a bently, minus that huge chrysler grill. The only thing I don't like is that the body is very tall but the roofline is not. It almost looks like a chop top.

That seems to be chryslers new thing...they went from cab forward design to the chop top, i mean look at the magnum as well...same thing.

It's about time Chrysler did something again. It's only been about 30 years since they built a car I really like, and still not to sure about the new offerings.
I think I'll be hitting a few dealerships soon to play a bit
<----- Not sure I have the "ATTIRE" to be taken seriously at the high dollar store
I'll also be talking to a friend at the local dealership....get an idea of how these things are really put together.
