Here are two images of two different RA28s with 5MGE engines and flares. Very slick cars, I'd love to own one.

I've also heard of guys dropping in 7MGTEs, must be rockets. Fast with any M series engine in any form though.

His is a notch back if I'm not mistaken. Nice car, but I prefer the hatch back style. Those Celicas do look good and amazing with the flares and wide rims. The front end is killer, looks so good.
If I had a project Supra I would love to do a hood mod so it opened forward like the RA28. That would be sweet.

I'm liking the mk3 hoods actually. Its a minor thing, but they go all the way back when you disconect the hood shocks, unlike on our mk2s that can only go up another 5 inchs or so with them disconnected. Makes it really convienent when your plucking those 7mgte's out from their engine bays for your mk2

Augh. I would never wish a hood that opens forward on anyone. All it is is a pain to work on. Just think about any maintanence where you would lean over the engine from the front (like adding coolant, checking oil, adding oil). Just trust me. One of the lings I like about the mk2 is the hood that opens "the right way" and the struts that keep it up without having to prop it up.
Anyways, that is one nice celica. I never really liked many of the celica generations except that latest one (2000-present) until I saw this that is. :) That is slick looking and I bet its a freaking rocket with a 5M-GE.

grrr i love that Celi, I never would have thought to put flares on that car, very good idea.
I personally like all the fastback Celicas from '77-'85, the FWD status ruined it for me
:(
as for the hood, I HATE working on my girls 280ZX, I still haven't figured out how to open it yet, she has to do it for me, LOL and trying to put coolant in was a huge PITA. I can't imagine changing her air filter which is located under where the header panel would be if it was a mk2. the hood is very much in the way

Rust was a worse problem on those Celicas than it is on our Supras. Very hard to find good ones around, but in Australia there seems to be a lot of them around.
The hood mod would not be a problem for me, I'm 6'4" tall.

I'm 6'3". I wouldn't call a reverse opening hood a problem so much as an annoyance. Its just the kind of subtle PITA that gets to you after a while. I haven't really thought about it on the supra. Maybe things are easy to reach just leaning over the side?? But for me I will definitely keep the hood the way it is.

well, anything in the back of the engine bay becomes very easy with a front hinge hood, just the opposite of how they are with a rear hinge hood obviously, but think of it this way, what are the things you check and service most often?
oil, water, belts.
where are they?
for me, i try to keep things simpler, sure a front hinge hood would look cool, but the PITA factor keeps me from even considering it.
