View Full Version : buying a new supra (not mkII)

I tried buying a couple of mkii's, but all the deals fell through. My dad doesn't like the idea that much anyway, and we are now looking at a couple of mkiii's. My question is: are there any common problems/failures I should look for on the mkiii's (all are either '87 or '89 turbos)? Is rust still a large issue with those as well (I heard they did different treatments after the 86 mkii)? Also, I won't have much use for my mkii after I get one of these, so how much should I expect (if any...) for it? I got 3 offers for it from junk yards for $300, but I'm hoping to get a bit more than that :P ... it's body is not in great condition... it has some rust and it was in a front end collision, so hood and front bumper are fubar'ed. The engine has only ~86k miles on it though. The entire thing is brown on brown... or maybe maroon interior... *shrug* it's leather :P

Anyway, yeah, that's it. My car wouldn't be much more than a parts car unless somebody serious wants to restore it, I think... so how much should I expect for it, even though it runs?

Targa water leaks and they do rust from what I've seen in photos from back east. The 89+ motor mounts break easy and extremely expensive from Toyota. Oil leaks down the center of the CPS (=s replacement).

um, any pics of the mk2? and where are you located? people here need parts all the time. Someone might even buy it for parts for $500-$800 depending on what it actually looks like.

Columbus, OH. It's pretty much the only parts car in the direct area that's not completely rusted out...

That, and the passenger door got dented. I don't have any pics of the interior, and it's missing the radio (I got an after market one, but I'm keeping it. The OEM one got busted). The seats are all cracked, pretty much superficial, except the driver's seat, which has a few tears. The rocker panels are pretty much rusted out, the mud flaps are broken (one is hanging on by a thread), but the hatch isn't rusting and the sun roof is still sealed 8)

The oil pump is on its way out though, now that I think about it.

Beware the BHG!!! (I know it was already mentioned, but it's what the 7M is famous for)
